Never mind the corn on the pizzas, there's nothing more corny than Korean Hip Hop. I don't know about you, but I think most of these guys are trying too hard! Very Happy They got all of the clothes and some of them can dance too, but the Kims and Parks of Korea will never be even 1% as cool as Ice Cube or Notorious B so why the hell are they trying sooooo hard? I have to restrain myself from laughing when I walk past these guys in front of the hip hop clubs in Hondae. Do any of these guys realize how goofy they look with the oversize baseball caps, the gold chains and the jeans sagging way down past their hip bones? Even the white hip hop wannabes back home don't take it that far with the fashion. I don't think even the Korean chicks are buying it either. What's wrong with just trying to be a cool Korean dude?

I'd like to walk up behind one, grab his pants and pull 'em way up high over his stomach so that he gets a nice wedgie and say to him "Now this is how to wear yer pants dude!" Laughing

"Pass me that 10 ouncer of Soju before I cap your @ss!"

there is more to hiphop that just gangster rap. there are a lot of great white rappers that you prolly don't even know about (slug, Eyedea, sage francis, buck 65 and more). hip hop is more than just rap, it's a culture, with more than just one element to it (you can look up the others, cuz you obviously don't know).

brilliant Wink

However, I don't mind it. Some (well the few that i've talked to) are cool.

Plus I see a lot of Nigerian and white Gi posers too.

They got all of the clothes and some of them can dance too, but the Smiths and Armstrongs of America will never be even 1% as cool as Ice Cube or Notorious B so why the hell are they trying sooooo hard? I have to restrain myself from laughing when I walk past these guys in front of the hip hop clubs in Kansas City. is good, and Dynamic Duo is pretty good, too.

drunken tiger had some good songs! but they lived alot of their life in USA so I guess that helps.. Perry from YG Entertainment is a foreigner I think he might be half Korean. anyway he was writing alot of the songs for the hip hop artists.. but I tell you what.. some of the Hip Hop songs have been good.. many of them are just plain garbage!!
none of them make any money!! its not like in the states where one guy can cut a single then he is rolling in a escalade rolling on 24" rims and wearing bling!! in korea you cut a single and you be rolling in the Korado wearing that fake rolex from dongdaemun !! fogeddaboutit!!
Hip hop is a culture! there are many kinds of Hip hop in the world..
but GANGSTA rap! you wont find that style here because their is no real gangsta culture, about selling crack for a four finger ring! having a *beep* for a mother , blazing Endo and drinking hennesy!
rolling down the street saying F@%^K the police from the underground!
or fight the power!!!
the culture is not here!! they rap about how hard life is in school!
how hard life is for being a teenager! and that kind of stuff..
which is cool! I mean this is korea and hip hop is a way of expressing!
so yeah , but I dont like the way they try to be black!
there should make their own style and rap about it!
anyway..
back in NZ we call them HOMMIES! wannabe gangsta rappers!
you find them in every country!

There also seems to be little, if any artistry in Korean Hip Hop music. Everytime I pass a park in Seoul, there's always some 16 year old rapper shouting into a microphone. They're so awful that it's like almost anybody can jump up onto the stage and start rapping.

This is an odd country. Besides hip hop, they give the mircophone to almost anybody - like on those karaoke tv shows with people doing pop songs.

I saw a video a few times now that is quite new. The group is 'Crown J'. Now the beginning and ending of the video is identical with the 2 guys getting in the car, and I'm not sure if it is supposed to be comical or what. My gut suspicion, however, is that it is supposed to represent how they actually speak. One guy goes to adjust the cd player in the car, and the driver says something like, "Yo... don't you know that you should never touch a man's playa!". Or something to that effect. What a joke... and I really hope it is joke that are attempting. Try to catch it for a laugh.

There is one video I saw recently with a bunch of dudes with assault rifles, bandanas over their mouths, etc. trying to be gangster, and I just died laughing.

As far as fashion goes, they can run with it all they want. It doesn't bother me a bit. Some girls actually look damn fine with cornrows, camo cargos and wife beaters.

When it comes to the music, Drunken Tiger is the exception to the rule. The beats are hot, Tiger JK has considerable talent, skill, and originality. When a DT song comes on, you know its DT.

Who was that Korean guy who had the big NYC show? Rain? The Korean press was heralding it as the Korean wave lapping up on the shores of American and how pretty soon Americans would all be studying hangul. The American press was like "Hrm. Korean guy aping American rap music but adding nothing to it. Well, at least the Asian American kids like it." There was a great quote by a music producer who compared K-pop to the Latin music scene in America. The Latin artists stay true to their roots. They bring a unique sound and style. K-pop is just re-tread.

The only advantage K-pop has is in China. China is hungry for American culture but Chinese pride puts up barriers. However, K-pop has that American style and allows Chinese to glom onto American styles without losing pride. It's easier to accept it from a fellow Asian than those smug American running dogs.

Korean hip hop culture, its hilarious thats for sure but I am not sure that I would want it go away.

Why?

Cause it provides me with so much laughter, if you ever need a laugh watch a korean trying to rap or just look at one trying to fit into that culture. Pure and simply Funny stuff.

I would take it a step further and say that any rapper/hip hoppers from any country could disappear and that would be fine with me. Oh yes tell them to take all the country muisc people too.

I absolutely detest rap/hip hop/country crap, its just not music
