A friend of mine is having router (or lan or something problems) and I can't figure it out so I thought I'd turn it over to some better minds than mine.

- He has his desktop hooked up to the router via a cable and his laptop wirelessly.
- Laptop doesn't work at all with the wireless but works with the cable plugged right in.
- Desktop works well with the lan cable and then drops off completely.
- Laptop works okay when using the cable instead of the wireless (unless it's already stopped working on the desktop).
- All drivers are updated

Any ideas?

Some questions:

Is it a new router, or did it work fine before?

Has the firmware (perhaps you meant this) been updated?

What is the brand name and model?

Often, these problems are experienced by others if there is a defect in the firmware or manufacture of the unit. People talk about it. Search for stuff on Google. Otherwise, it's either a setting or the router has a problem. Wifi routers are anything but sturdy units these days.

... drops off what completely ?

Are you sure that it's a wireless router beav ?

Just thought I'd ask Very Happy

Like bbe said above, I'd go straight to the forums of the manufacturer, or something equivalent on the net. They'd help you troubleshoot this specific brand and better than we could. Not know exactly what your setup is ...

Best of luck with it ...
