| just wondering wether to buy a digi camera or regular camera, i saw a 5m pixil sony for about 700 000, is that reasonable?, im a definite amateur and wouldnt have a clue really, can i get a good quality digicam for cheaper, also are they hard to use?, like how do you go about getting the photos developed, can you just take your cam to a processing shop and do it there?. any suggestions appreciated. |

Digi cams are only any use if you have a PC or notebook.
Good for a beginner in that you can take bulk shots and get experince without developing alot of rubbish. You get that instant feedback etc.
Easy to use, dont worry about that. 700 000 should get a good one although you could try Yongsan (Lemons post) and get a good second handy for half that?(if your heading to Jap/tokyo they are cheaper) As you probably know they change models like the wind. Cannons are sweet as too is Fujiflim. Ive been using one for a few years but am going back to an SLR because I miss film and the need for more effort and thought in my photography.

| I HATE digi cams. Theres something fake and cheap about them, despite the cost. I hate the fact that its hard and expensive to get the pics printed and keeping pictures on my computer doesnt really appeal to me. You end up erasing them in the future anyway. I have a Canon EOS camera. I love it. Wouldnt EVER want a digital cam. |

Yea they do loose their appeal after a while although its still good to have one. Your right, you do delete alot, dont seem to look as good as on film.
But if you have the patience playing around with them on Photoshop is Jamieso. |

| yeah im thinking of going for a slr but a digi cam appeals cos you instantly see the pic. but im planning on spending around 700 000 so what should i be looking at in the slr range? |

Seems a little steep to me. Besides, the jump from 3mp to 5mp is a huge one in price, and it's not going to result in necessarily better pictures, though it depends what you want to do with it.
I've owned a 1.3 mp Samsung (that I gave away to my brother-in-law), a 2mp Kodak which I still have, and a Kyocera 3.3mp. The 3mp makes fantastic 8x10 prints and is overkill for standard 5x7 prints. The cheapest 3mp cameras can be had for 300~350,000w, though it's better to pay a little more for one with a good zoom lens.
If you're planning a trip abroad - anywhere - in the near future you might want to consider holding off on purchasing until you're out of Korea. Digital cameras are overpriced here. |

| Whatever you do make sure it has an optical zoom. Digital zooms are terrible. |

| a problem with digicams are that they are slower to focus than regular cameras the shutter speeds arent' as fast. if you want more creative control go for an slr. If you got the dough go for a digital slr. the latest canon has 11mp. I would hate to think of the price of that camera. |

| I like my digital camera quite well and FYI you can have the picture processed in 4x6 size for 200 won per photo at E-mart. Cheaper than their film price. Though for taking high quality photos. I will never change in my fully manual cannon from the late '70's. It may be older than I am but it still takes amazing photos. |

| SLR will ALWAYS beat out digital in my book. Theres just something more authentic and real about film. I wouldnt trade in my Canon EOS for any digital on the market. |

Indeed- I'd love to have one. But I wouldn't be thrilled about hauling one around. The one I use now is about the size of a deck of cards, and that certainly has its advantages. It's always with me, not on a shelf because I don't want to carry it. |

excuse me if i sound like a dumbass but thereason im asking about digi or slr is because last week i forked out a considerable amount on a korean mp3 which my korean mate who knows a fair bit about audio was adamant i should buy. being a first timer 2 mp3 i took it, got to the local pc bang to discover that theres a bit more to downloading sounds than just plugging in and clicking away. ill get the hang of it but its gonna take a lil while too sus it all out.
so my question is really, how hard is it to get pics from digi cams developed, as i said im a rank amatuer photographer and not really wanting to get into all the technical side of taking class pics. obviously with slr you just click and drop your roll off to be developed, is the process as simple with digi cams or is there a bit more computery technical knowhow skills involved?, cheers  |
