bit of a newbe at the whole bargaining thing got a quote for 1,030,000 won for a laptop without bargaining, i have since found out that a mate wants to get a system around the same price with the same specs.

the question is how much should i be able to take of the orginal quote 10%? esp if we both get it at the same time for cash

and just in general how much is the first offer of things at yongsan inflated?, do you bargain for DVDs and games and things?

Cheers

The first time I actually bought something I got the price for my router down from 30 to 25 and my pack of CD-Rs from 8 to 5, plus a couple of freebie cables and stuff. I also bought a digital camera for 170.000 instead of 220.000, plus got a free cover for the LCD screen and a free charger. The memory card was cut by about 20% or so as well.

You can always negotiate things there, especially if you are paying cash for a large purchase. I've read places that you get charged an extra 10% if you use a card, b/c then they have to report the amount to the tax people and they pay for the transaction.

For a laptop fo 1.030.000, twice over, I'd start out at 800.000 and maybe go up to 900.000, or try to get a free carrying case, USB mouse, USB memory key, or something like that. My rule to negotiating/haggling is that you shouldn't insult them on your first offer, but you should start at about the 80 - 85% of original cost.

That is unless you know the price of it somewhere else. If you can find it cheaper somewhere else, but don't want to have to actually find that place, just print off the price sheet and show it to them.

Good luck.
