Bangbae
Nakseongdae
Sadang
Goseok Terminal ͹̳
Sookmyung Woman's University Ա

I'm starting a new job in June and I'll be moving from Kyungi closer to head office which is in . and the surrounding areas are way pricey even for a shoebox you need to step outside of just to change your mind.

I was looking around on the net at rental prices for one-rooms or 'office-tels' to get a vague idea of what's available. Just curious to know if any of you live at the above mentioned subway stops, and what you have to say. I'm hoping I could find a small place to rent for like 5-700/35, but in or the near vicinity that would be impossible. I only mentioned Ա 'cos my gf lives right by the university and would be nice to live nearby.

I'm just interested in hearing from those who know these areas well and what they think. Thanks Wink

I lived really close to Sookmyung Woman's University Ա. Here is what I found.

Positives
A lot of places to eat along the strip.
A lot hairstylists along the strip.
A pretty good medium size market.
Very close to Yongsan Electronics market.
Nice walking track beside the school
The school has been spruced up lately.
Really good fruit market about 10 minutes away.
Really safe....lots of people walking around.
Close to Namdaemun, Myungdong and downtown (Subway or 30 min walk)

Negatives
Most houses are in the hills, which sucks if your tired or drunk.
Not close to major shopping outlet (Lotte is a 20 min walk.)
The fruit market is up a nice big hill.
Close to the US army base
Loud in the morning (But we are in Korea)

Sorry I have no Idea about rent, her mom put down a deposit.

Just don't work at Sookmyung Womens' Univ. Most everything I've read about that place is that it has become a bad place for foreigners to work.

I haven't lived there but it seemed quite nice to me. I don't have really specific information for you, but if I were you I would go a little further south, around the area you just mentioned, and suck up a bit longer commute in exchange for a livable environment.

I would recommend places north of the river, as I prefer to , but that would be too much of a trip for you maybe.

I'll be visiting Bangbae tonight so I can feedback on that later.

I've got a couple of friends who live in Sadang and personally I think its a good location, I wouldn't mind moving there myself. Its a few subway stops from Yongsan, a cheap cab to Hongdae or Itaewon, and on Line 2 only a few stops from Gangnam.

I'm researching the same question these days. I'm even thinking about Youngdongpo/Mokdong area which is near transportation, shopping, night life, and a few minutes from my company.

Hongdae seems doable if your in a good location/building.

Yongsan and Itaewon are certainly too hilly and overrun with bars for me.

Don't forget about Bucheon, Anyang, Suji and Pundang down south of the river even though they are a few more minutes away.

What an absurd post! Are you for real?

õ I hear is very hilly too. Could be a good or a bad thing. Bad I guess when you're lugging a weeks groceries from Costco.

I think for the very reason that Sadang is central and convenient, it's pricier than other places.

Anyone live in ? ? (on the orange line near )

Bangbae's bound to be bloody expensive, too.

The rent will be lower in the Nakseongdae - Sillim strip, but it's still pretty expensive over there b/c of the proximity to Gangnam. Also not much in the way of supermarkets or other modern conveniences.

For cheaper prices, you might consider going toward Guro. It's not too bad of a commute, and it's cheaper.

Sadang is your best bet - subway junction, lots of cheap small apts on the foothill of Kwan nak Saa where you can climb in your free time. I lived there for a year and loved the area! Very Happy

Anyone live in Sadang? What's the area like? I live down in and this place honestly for Korea is the cat's ass. My 'hood has wide streets lined with trees, central park walking distance away, Walmart and Emart a few minutes a way, walking distance actually, cleaner and less congested than most other places I've been to in Seoul, subway's walking distance away. So it's going to be hard to beat this place, but I have to move.

The only thing Sadang's likely to have on Pyeongcheon is convenience to Central Seoul. And I've never thought it was terribly cheap.
