No offence to Korea or Taekwondo but its only one step from Ti-Bo.

Taekwondo is an ART and practicality is minimal.

Take up Muay Thai you will get more sparring satisfaction. We have people sparring all the time in my Gym. I have people in my class say that they threw more punches in first week of Muay Thai then they had in a year Taekwondo.

Check the vid out.

Ha!

I admit I have already realized the limitations of Taekwondo, and your video link is certainly an excellent example of how the 2 styles compare.

I was thinking of taking up my next post in Thailand for Muay Thai, but first I want to claim some reasonable 'mastery' in a 'Korean' martial art before I let it drop. The fact is there are many Taekwondo participants here who enjoy TKD as it is. I just want to be able to spar with another Taekwondo-ist rather than try to compete against a Muay Thai killer... I quite like the artistic side of TKD myself. (But, not that cranky dancing stuff).

Good luck with your gym - sounds good. Perhaps we should have a martial arts forum on Dave's !

Taekwondo does have some great merits.. You learn to kick very well. I had the honor of training with a X-Korean Taekwondo Champion.. His punches are pretty lame but boy could he fooking kick like a horse. I never seen a leg move so god damn fast. He was relatively speaking out of shape, he said he got injured so he was not training as hard.

Apprantley if your taekwondo champion or really high ranked fighter you can get out of doing time in the military. He never served a day.

Any way geting to the point of taekwondo, he kicked so damn hard that even when wearing king pads I had bruised forearms the next day. He was also a giant of a Korean I have never seen a Korean as big as him.

Problem with Taekwondo is that most of the gyms are for kids so finding one for adults is a huge problem. Any way if you studied for a year in Korea you are technically certified instructor.
