This is an odd question. Koreans, and asians in general, are really crazy about big eyes. To those of you who have mixed babies (Korean/western) that have grown, do they have any certain features that Koreans really notice? Like bigger eyes, a bigger nose, etc? I am sure the nose usually gets larger/higher. How about eyes?

Yeah, but they're still mixed breed, so still looked down upon, no?

Funny you should mention that. They took a picture of my kid last month...and lots of people have commented on the size of his eyes:

My brother and I are mixed. When we were babies our eyes seemed bigger with our baby faces and Koreans always commented on them. Now that we're grown they're bigger than typical Asians, but I don't think as noticeable. Koreans still notice from time to time but it's not as big a deal.

My brother btw was born with golden blond hair, blue eyes, and white skin...really funny

My daughter (mixed) has brown hair and her skin is whiter than mine (go figure). She has big eyes.

Recently she visited Korea with her mother, and was basically mobbed by the Koreans with their little camera phones.

In Korea, light features are considered beauty (whereas dark is not), so naturally my daughtered scored off the charts on the Korean beauty scale.

Being looked down? Only in the minds of the most paranoid Dave's poster perhaps.

If anything it's reverse racism combined with a whole lot of envy.

Paddycakes, did it bother you that people were taking pics of your kid with their cell phone? I hope they at least asked first. I wonder what they do with the pics.

Hmmpf... Any mixed baby worth its salt should have one big eye and one small, that's what I say.

Just an interesting sidenote: Did you know babies are born with full-grown adult-sized eyes, but your nose & ears continue to grow till you die?

That's because seeing is believing, but lying (pace Pinocchio) and gossip are learned activities.

I've met mixed folks that look 100% Korean to me. The babies in those photos above do in my opinion (yours may differ), and also Lisa Kelly on 'Let's Speak Korean' looks like a Korean too I think - especially with the white make-up needlessly plastered over her pretty face, as seems desirable in this country, heaven knows why as it's totally hideous and unnecessary!

And also, with so many Koreans having had the eyelid surgery done, it's sometimes hard to tell. I didn;t know about the eyelid surgery phenomenon when first came to Korea and I was walking around like "wow! don't many Koreans look very "western'? They select very western-looking girls for TV ads don't they?" etc.

I often wonder whether Koreans can tell the difference in looks between some 50%ers and 100%ers too......(?)
