I wanted everyone to know that I succeeded in getting a story published about recruiters who get a kickback from the English teachers salary.

The story was published last week in Hankyoreh.
http://www.hani.co.kr/arti/society/society_general/116238.html

The news article starts out with the writer expressing great shock after reading Nancy's English teaching contract. Great details about the E-2 visa and the contract's terms & conditions are explained. Mostly embarrassing and not reflecting too well on the present system.

The difficulties for an individual English instructor to make a employment contract with a single school is the overall issue.

Middle-men/persons have traditionally dominated this arrangement of employment of foreign teachers.
And of course they get a slice of the teachers' pay.

SBS asked about interviewing me for a morning television show, but I havent heard back from them, so that may have fallen through.

If you want to read more about the situation see: http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=52870&highlight=

If possible I'll write it in English for the Herald. I wrote for a newspaper in the US, and I developed the story for the Korean reporter. But I hit a lot of walls when trying to interview people, not only because of language barriers but mainly: officials just refused to talk to me.
There was no way to do the story without turning it over to a Korean reporter. Juhee did a great job, and I appreciate Hani Newspaper's interest in the issue of recruiter scams. But Hani doesn't have an English version, so now I want the story published in a competing newspaper.
Well, as you can imagine it's a delicate negotiation.
Especially since Hani is publishing another story of mine on Teacher Appreciation Day.

I doubt very much that Koreans will react to this article in the way that you seem to be expecting.

I'd guess that most Koreans will look at this and say, "He has good business sense, how do I get in on this?" Shocked

The core to come from the school the bankbook where the wages comes in manages from the enterprise, the lecturer changes a bankbook password with option bankbook, ci the possibility of doing in order not to be. When corresponding source language it sends a grant with the bankbook which is opened with name of the lecturer whom it pushes from the school, the enterprise will reach to receive, ' after taking off a commission ' first, the remaining money source language the urgent will be it is a thing in the lecturer whom it pushes.

The computer department of pedagogy same part subject the length where the education enterprise participates to a program supply it is to be opened, but English in order for the school and the lecturer to contract directly. The brokerage bodies intrude but and the parents are the count where the considerable portion of the money which also the tuition fee puts out is soaking the boat of the brokerage bodies.

The problem the brokerage body leads from the school and the lecturer who is a foreign nation it is introduced, it is seen, the school will be able to verify the temperament of the direct lecturers there is a place. Seoul between works from the elementary school with the English lecturer is distant (assumed name)" the school piece me it did to listen to a study in mind, but that it will introduce the different lecturer from the enterprise piece, it will be able to extend a printed style of writing contract, " it got torn and " school berry sympathy the good lecturer teaching the students more with the enterprise piece relationship it was important more and it thought, " it conveyed.

So.......The google.com korean to english version of a translation, obviously, leaves something to be desired.

Kinda of reminds me of my usual day working as the only native teacher in a school with 1200 students and 40+ teachers.
Lots get lost in translation ....

You give me way too much credit; I'm a reporter, I expect nothing, in fact, I'm rather callous. I throw a story out there; I see what happens. But care? Rarely, sorry, I realize you expected more from me.
