|
|
As my life continues to spiral downwards into an abyss...
Long story, but I need to know - who is considered the owner of the school, i.e. the person who I go after for money owed to me. Is it...
1) the director, official business license holder, and contract signer
or
2) her crazy parents who own the building, control the finances, fired both of us, hit me, and tried to push her down the stairs?
Do I have an hope in going after #2? Or did they successfully create a fall guy (or gal in this case)? BTW, yes, I'm going to the Labor Board. Just thought I'd get the peanut gallary's opinion.
cheers |

I've had a similar experience. Basically the labor board will need to see your contract, and it's the name on the contract that will have to pay.
In my previous situation, the hagwon owner/director borrowed the money from her rich aunt. I came in on the last day of my 11th month to questions from my moring adult student about why the school was closing. So, I had no notice that the next day the school was closed (supposedly due to financial problems).
So anyway, they only wanted to pay me for the month that I had worked. I wanted airfare, my last month, and severence payment. The labor board could only help me on the last month problem. According to labor law, whey must give you 30 days notice before terminating your contract.
The labor board contacted the directror (who's name is on the contract), and threatened them. So they paid up the last month's salary. But, I got screwed out of my airfare and severence payment. It really sucked.
Good luck to you. |

Yea, so I found out (at least not the hard way ((yet). So here's a word of warning - make sure that the financial backer (be it parent or relative or someone else) is on the contract. Otherwise you might be left trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip.
Anyways, thanks. SNAFU. |

Did you file a police report for physical assault? |
I wanted to, but my director talked me out of it (respect for parents BS). We did have a nice conversation with the police the next day though, when the mother and uncle tried to break into my apartment "to talk". No police report, but an acceptable detente was reached. |

I hope that "acceptable detente" included a few million won paid into your bank account. Or your director talking you out of it did.
Seriously, physical assault...who do these people think they are? Hit them where it hurts, in the wallet and they'll think twice about that kind of behaviour. |

If you include actually getting paid for my last three weeks of work and still having a job, then yes, I got a few million won out of it. Beyond that, the cost-benefit of pursuing anything more isn't worth it. |
