Hello All~

I posted last month about a job in a scenic Korean City. I took all of the suggestions given of cities and put EXACTLY what I was looking for in my Resume and Cover Letter. I have had about 35 interviews and job offers, but the problem is that NO ONE seems to be paying attention the fact that I DO NOT want to work in Seoul nor want to work with young children.

Based on the fact that I have two years of previous ESL Teaching, TESOL Certification and am willing to work hard, do you think the following is a reasonable request? And if so, WHY cannot I seem to find a good position? PLEASE HELP!


I wish to secure a teaching contract in Korea beginning in July of 2006. I am flexible and open to discussing any point of my application and placement at a great institution. What I am most excited about is the opportunity to teach English and live in Korea. In general, here is an example of the type of position that I am looking for:

DESIRED LOCATION: Smaller city close to nature (I like outdoor activities such as hiking, beaches and bike riding)
DESIRED AGE OF STUDENTS: Middle School, High School & Adult
DESIRED TEACHING HOURS: Afternoon/Evening classes, no split shift
DESIRED START DATE: July 2006
DESIRED SALARY: Starting at 2.3 million won


If you have or know of any positions that meet the aforementioned criteria, please let me know, or I will happily send you my Cover Letter and Resume for you to pass on. I assure you that I am a component teacher and fun co-worker!

(Please note that I also tried Pagoda, but am in the process of trying to decipher their complex terms and conditions and I would also have to pay rent with that organization).

You may well be an extremely competent teacher, but in the more rural areas your salary will disqualify you from many potential employers even considering you for a position. Also in the smaller towns that I have worked, you get all ages attending the hogwans. I wish you every success.

I work near Yongin and it really can't get much smaller than this town. I teach at a public high school and actually only teach 15 classes a week. 2.3 million which includes the rural area bonus. Might be right up your alley.

I am sure there are similar postions available in and around Gyeonggi province.

Thanks for your replies. I will retool my position requests based on your responses.

What I meant by �middle school and up� was no very young children. I�ve taught ESL for a while and I am not effective with any cannot ration with.

Also, as far as �smaller city� goes, I meant anything with under a 2 million population. I live in NYC now and the whole ultra-bustling-concrete-jungle thing does not work for me. I�m from California.

With that stated, I am going to look for work in cities such as Ansan, Daejeon, Bucheon, Goyang, Gwangju, Songnam, Suwon, Ulsan, Cheongju, Changwon, Anyang, Gimhae, Mason, Mikom, Namyangju, Pohang, Yongin as suggested.

Would you consider starting work in September? I think you should be looking at Public School positions.
