Quite amazing how many corruption scandals that guy was involved in...and then his shameful fiddling with laws so he couldn't be prosecuted for some of them. Just amazing.

Bad guy or not, he did very little for Italy's economy.

Why don't they get some new politicians in? Berusconi and Prodi have been kicking around for donkeys' years.

Seconded.

Did you read the Economist's opinion of him a few months back? Unbelievably scathing for a serious newspaer. They treated him even worse than they did Richard Branson a couple of years before.

Right..I knew it was one of those 2. Anyhow I was in Modena for a month in 95, he was fairly unpopular for his control of the media etc.
Btw I saw Romano prodi when I was there, doing a Tv interview.

Italy was great, a real happening vibe..and fascinating culture. You're right, most of us don't really have a clue with what goes on there -but we like to think we've experienced it and know about it..

Yours neither from where I'm standing, amico. I am however, European.

Do you really want me to lay out what's wrong with Berlusconi, or are you just looking for another platform to pipe up about being 'Italian'? Go on, I'll indulge you. Fire away.

Berlusconi was a terrible leader for Italy. However, Prodi will be little better. It says a great deal about the current state of Italian politics that a Euro bureaucrat could be elected the leader of their country.

Hopefully, he will not last long.
