I'm looking for something to do this long weekend - I heard there's an island off the coast of Busan that's a great place to visit.....
so anyone know the name of that island, how can I get there, and what's fun to do on it?

Easiest directions. Go to Nampodong in Busan and take a taxi (2500 won - make them use the meter!) to the nearby ferry terminal to Geoje ("go-jay"). Ferries leave hourly to okpo ("Oakpo") and Jangseungpo.

by PM contact Cynical Optimist teaching in Okpo or captainkirk holidaying in Jangseungpo for more info.
or PM me your phone number and I'll gladly give you directions to some fun and out of the way places (you just won't believe how many people TALK about going to Geoje, then I've provided tons of info and detailed directions, then they've changed their minds).
Highlights: POW camp and museum (island housed Korean war prisoners, worth a visit); beaches! nature art park in the middle of the island (with a real monkey and peacocks too, and duck boats to ride on - bring your camera, some absurd sights there); Oedo ('way-dough") island reached via ferry most often from Jangseungpo is a small beautiful island you can walk around in half an hour with a restaurant on top, lots of great gardens, enjoyable on a sunny day (neither Cynical Optimist nor captainkirk have been there yet so simply offer to go with them if you want); Hae-gum-gang, rock cliff islets off the southeast coast are neat to see, especially on the (cheap) boat tours.
Them's the cole notes briefs on some of the major sights of Geoje-do. The insider's tour ain't running at the moment (i'm not there ) |

Wow, thanks for the awesome info VanI.
Should I plan to stay the night there or do you think it would be better to try to see everything in one day and head back to Ulsan in the evening? |
