The thread about the survey of American post-adolescents got me wondering about my own knowledge. I found a couple of tests, and took them. Please do the same, and post your scores. Remember, no pre-studying! For real.
US Test #1: This test has a good scoring system. It gives you three chances, with diminishing points for each wrong answer.
European Quiz: Same as the US Quiz #1. You get three tries per country.
Asia Quiz: Same format.
My scores: US test 127 out of 150. Some trouble with midwest and far north. European Quiz 78 out of 111. Ouch. Asian test 68 out of 87. That's not bad. I basically missed all the stans.
I didn't even bother with a Middle East or African test because I know I wouldn't even get a 50% on those. But, they're there on the same site if you'd like to take them.
Ok, time to share your scores!

Asia: 85 cause when I clicked on Brunei I missed and hit Malaysia(oooops that's a hint..), I mean, it's SMALL.
Being a world history teacher RULES. But there is no way I am doing the America one...it will be em-barr-ass-ing.
And I am too tired to do the others, maybe later. (As if anyone cares.)
P.S. Thanks for the post Q. because I have been meaning to make sure I know where EVERYTHING is before next year when my student teaching gets going, and that's a fun way to do it. |

I got the same as Quinella, 127, on the U.S. test (I shoulda/woulda/coulda done better, but I was eating lunch balencing a tray with a bowl of soup on my lap, and I couldn't quite lean over enough to see the small states like Deleware and kept just missing when I clicked...
I didn't do as well on the other two - in the mid 60s on both (my problem being that my short-term memory is lousy so if I don't click the right one I usually can't remember what and where my previous wrong answers were, consequently striking out a lot - like the great home run hitter I am!... )
There are some easier quizzes on Dave's ESL "Stuff for Students" section:

Where the heck's Rhone Island? I know it's one of the New England states but is it so small it's invisible? |

Yeah I missed some points on the US test due to poor clicking, too. Delaware and Rhode Island. Poor excuses, I know.
Actually, after I did the first US Quiz, I did this one, too:

It's much different. You get a blank map and have to place one state at a time, in random order. That one is just like the puzzle I had when I was four years old, and I actually still remembered some of the states due to memory tricks I devised when doing the puzzle way back when. So weird. |

U.S.: 136/150 - forgot where Arkansas was and slipped up on Indiana and a few of those mid-western states.
Europe: 111/111 - coming from Europe, I damn well ought to know this and I do.
Asia: 76/87 - mixed up the Stans and couldn't find Brunei at all! Hidden somewhere near Malaysia someone said? |

This one is so cool! I got 48 out of 50. Average error 14 miles. I was a map freak when I was a kid. Blew it with Arkansas & Nebraska. The begining is difficult trying to get my bearings. Lots of fun! |

USA: 135/150
Europe: 111/111 (best know my own continent)
Asia: 81/87 (Fook the Stans)
Pretty pleased with that, although I should have gotten some more of the US states. I really have no idea which is which out of the small ones in North East. |
