Hi everyone,

We got our visas today and will be off to Korea withn two weeks Very Happy

However we have had a look at them and the issue we have is that on the visa it says:

Issue Date 2006/05/02

Expiry Date 2006/08/02

Has the embassy put in the wrong date i.e. our visa is valid only for 3 months not 1 year?

Also it says:
Status E2
Period of Sojourn: 01Y

Do we need to send the visas back??

The visa is "permission to enter", which you must do before it expires 3 months from issue.

Once here, you will saunter off to immigration to get your ARC, which is your residence/work permit.

Are you sure about that? After reading this post, I took a look at my visa, and it expires 1 year from the time it was issued. Penfold, I'm not sure I'd want to take any chances. You might want to check with the embassy. It's less of a pain then getting here to find out your visa did expire and you're not here legally.

Heydelores, were you looking at the Visa in your passport, or the Alien Registration Card?
Visa's expire after 3 months. Your Alien Registration card after 1 year. The Visa is what is inside your passport, but it simply allows you to enter the country. The Alien Registration Card is what allows you to stay and work here for a year.

My husband got his visa in his passport and it was for 11 months. He had signed a 1-year contract. He had to go to immigration and extend his visa. If you don't, when you try to leave Korea, you get nailed at the airport.

Yes, you can stay in Korea past your visa expiration, but I wouldn't recommend it. Get it extended before it expires, but wait to do it until you're in Korea. You'll have to go to immigration anyway to get your ARC.

Yes, I was definitely looking at my visa in my passport. It expires exactly 1 year after it was issued.

No, it is fine. The initial visa you are issued with is valid for 90 days.
