It's my girlfriend's iPod, and it keeps giving me this msg: The file or directory WiPod_ControlWDeviceWSysInfo is corrupt or unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility.
I'm at a loss here. Could some please help? I can't update the ipod, and it doesn't show up in iTunes.

First off, try and run the utility. You can also put the iPod back to factory settings by holding the center button and the menu button for five seconds or so. Not saying that will fix it, but it might. It will erase all the songs/contacts etc. but if it gets you back working, it's a small thing to drag everything back in. Also, if you haven't already, you can also try using a different USB port.
Also, check out the support page:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/
You're running Windows so I can't give you any specific help, but the people on the forums on Apple's site know there stuff, for the most part, so you should be able to get it solved one way or the other.
Hope you get it worked out. I left my iPod at work today and I'm already bummed about walking to work w/o it tomorrow.

actually, that's just a kill switch. I've done that several times at the gym when my ipod started acting up with no lasting problems at all.
try the kill switch.
I had actually read on ipod website that it is IMPOSSIBLE to erase the songs on your ipod using ONLY your ipod. You have to erase the library on your itunes.
perchance, are you using winamp as you media library? I've heard that can happen with certain versions of winamp (the newest/second newest) one i'm told...?)
OR are you using an old version of iTunes?
In any case....somewhere on here, you may find an answer:
