Korea 2nd Highest in Road Congestion
In its analysis of the degrees of congestion on OECD roads, the MOTC (MOCT) said that as of 2005, South Korea has 151 vehicles per kilometer of road, the second highest rate, behind Germany, among OECD members.
The era of "one vehicle per household" is likely to be realized later this year or by 2007.
Canada ranked last on the congestion list. The U.S. -- the world's largest carmaker -- ranked 15th with 214.7 million vehicles on 6.3 billion kilometers of roads.

what do you expect in a country that has a mentality of tunnel vision (빨리빨리, go forward, no reverse, hurry hurry, oh, there is a car ahead of me, i will try to go around him, oh, not enough space, now i will get mad at him and honk and wait for everyone else to move. why has another car tried to go around me, why is he honking at me? why are we stuck here now for 30 minutes? they must be foreigners...) |

Obviously no one has factored in China.
I mean, the rule of law there is "as long as I get there, it's ok"
I think the worst place for accidents has changed, it is certainly Kuwait.
The country has mostly highways where people drive at neckbreaking speed. So much so that when there is an accident, it is never a fender bender". I read that most accidents here result in either severe injuries or death. There are wrecks strung along the sides of the roads up and down the country, it looks like the aftermath of a major battle in a "Mad Max Movie"
Finally, Korea can breathe a sigh of relief in knowing that another country has one of the worst road accident records.

Where are you getting 80 million from? Even if you combine both Koreas it's just a little over 70 million, and I doubt they have awful traffic congestion up north. |

It is a statistic of averages per country, and I'm not sure that's always useful. Canada is a large country with many rural areas and towns. Tell someone in Toronto or Calgary that there's no traffic congestion ever. Thailand is not (to me at least) a really car-crowded nation, but Bangkok traffic jams can be nasty.
But it's bad enough here. I find it frustrating riding a bicycle even out in the country when drivers seem to feel traffic lights are only a suggestion.
