So, I've been researching stuff for a few months and everyone notes how easy it is to find a job. But does this apply year-round?
I'll be done uni this summer but my actual convocation, when I will get my diploma, isn't until mid-November. Ideally, I would like to find a job from home at the start of November, mail them the copy of my diploma/transcripts as soon as I get them, and go to Korea to start for December. I would go at the end of this summer if I could but I'm not officially a grad until the day of convocation.
I am wondering if hagwons hire for December? December 25 is a public holiday, but do kids get more time off? Am I likely to find a good job? Does everything (ie hiring new teachers) kinda get put on hold for the month?
The reason I want to go for then is because that would mean returning to Canada in December 2007, so I can spend the holidays with my family before heading to the UK for probably quite awhile. If I wait til the new year to go, I would be in Korea for X-Mas 2007 and then not back in Canada for who knows how many X-Mases. Christmas doesn't mean much to me but it does to my family. I'd rather miss out on this coming X-Mas so I could be in Canada for one before I move away again. TMI, but I thought someone might ask why December, haha.
What about January? Is that a better bet?
Also: I've looked up the average winter temps for Seoul, but for those that have been there, has it been very cold? I found the last winter here in Toronto to be way too warm for my liking, and before that I was in Glasgow and it was spring-like the whole winter... so I would very much like a nice cold winter! (But one's enough for me!) |

| Hogwans hire year-round. There is always a demand. Public schools will be hiring at a disproportionately high rate in January. |

It is VERY EASY to get a job in December. I did back in 2002 and boy were the recruiters hungry for teachers!! It must be difficult to find waygooks willing to move before the holidays. I had more than one recruiter ask me if I really wanted work in December or just for January.
I started work December 21st with exactly what I most wanted in terms of location and work conditions.
It's easy year round. |

Thanks for the replies!
This is good to hear, and it's nice that now I won't be worrying that December might not work out. |
