Korea's Rank in Competitiveness Slides to 38th
South Korea slid nine notches in the national competitiveness index this year, behind rival Asian countries -- including Japan, China and India -- marking the lowest ranking in seven years, according to a Swiss international business school.
Korea showed weakness in the sectors of administrative efficiency (47th) and corporate management efficiency (45th). It ranked of 31st and 30th in those sectors in 2005. More specifically, Korea ranked 51st in the field of corporate laws, a subdivision of the administrative efficiency category. Furthermore, it ranked 61st in the areas of labor-management relationship and financial experts under the category of management efficiency.
