영어 나라 사람 today. I was so surprised and I thought it was great. I was walking to my car when another car pulled up next to me. Out jumped a little 5-7 year old boy. All of us have had this happen before. A little kid sees us, his eyes get as big as basketballs, and he belts out "엄마, 엄마 ㅏㅏㅏㅏㅏ, 미국 사람!!!!!" Or, "엄마, 외국 사람!!!!!!!" "Mom, mom, an American!!!!!!!" Or "Mom, mom, a foreigner!!!!"
But not this little fellow. The first thing I thought of was some mother finally taught their child correctly. He said "Mom, a person from an English speaking country."
Oh, it was beautiful.

I've gotten that before too. Although only from really little guys, that didn't seem as if they'd been talking for a long time. Though it really is a similar assumption--look at the English-speaking person.

Kid must be psychic. How'd he know you were a native English speaker?

I'm not sure his mother taught him correctly. Simply seeing a white person, his chances of being correct are statistically higher if he says "외국 사람" rather than "영어 나라 사람."

Yea, I guess I was just happy to be called something different, having being called Waygook Saram at least 2-3 million times since I came here 3 1/2 years ago. The word kind of has a negative ring when I hear it now. It's kind of like Ajumma.

I, personally, will never forget the first time I was called adjeoshi. I'm pretty sure I can remember every subsequent time as well.

Heard a new one today that still has me laughing.
Walking by a playground, a little girl noticed me and stopped what she was doing.
She feebly mumbled, "Hello," but I had already passed and kept going.
I heard her ask her friend, "헬로 사람 아니야?"

"Isn't that a hello-person?"

Thanks, kid! Laughing
