First, Jinju posts his theory that anything a 4th grader likes must obviously be teh suck.

Now, he's engaging himself in a battle of whose personal musical preferences are actually correct.

I really hope he's just "taking the piss", I think the term is.

Chopin is a technician? YEs, he was technically maybe the greatest ever..but to say that shows you just dont get the depth of his music. His music touches deeply. Theres a reason why he is revered by a whole nation, while Bach isnt.

Got nothin to do with the relative Kraut/Composer:Polack/Composer ratio, eh?

Listen to Bach's Chaccone. AND OK Computer some more.

One of my grade 4 students said "Teacher, my favorite band is Radiohead". Ok, he is a smart kid but if you are a favorite of a 4 year old then you arent as artsy as you think.

Sounds like you fell for the "Tell the foreigner something he'll like and he'll like you back" trick. Very Happy His hip father probably told him to say that to you.

Highly unlikely as I wear an "I hate Radiohead's pretentious pseudo-artistic muzak" tshirt on a semi-daily basis. Smile

Well, you think she looks weird in that picture, you should see her now. I visited her at her new home when I was in the US, and she purportedly had caught some sort of virus that caused her to lose 60% of her fur. The owners had gotten her taken care of medically, and the hair had started growing back a little when I saw her, but still she was basically hairless from about the middle of her torso to her hind leg, and then on the last 6 inches of her tail. And skinnier than ever. Definitely less cute than the avatar cat that people keep PMing me about.

Other may have gone on to make music you enjoy listening to more, but Bach is the grandaddy of modern music any way you look it. His work ushered in the change from modality to tonality, which is still how the world hears and writes music 99% of the time. He also solidified concepts such as counterpoint. He was do deeply mathematical is almost impossible to comprehend. He casts a long shadow, and deserves recognition if only for that, and Air on the G string ( I know that's open to a joke, but please don't get fresh in a thread about classical music... Wink )

So Jinju has a 4 year old 4th grade student (that's pretty freaking amazing and worthy of its own thread) who professes to like Radiohead.
And now we know that Jinju doesn't like Bach and Radiohead.
What does Jinju like?
Put your musical tastes on the line for us to critique, if you dare.
