I remember reading another thread that mentioned some Germans who were having no luck at all finding work as German teachers in Seoul.

You can't teach English here unless you hold a passport from the major English speaking countries.

If you do make it over to Korea, I would be interested in taking German lessons.

That depends. The first school I worked at here hired a German guy as a summer replacement to fill in for vacationing teachers. He was hired as a "German" teacher to get by immigration regulations, but he was an English teacher while he was here.
He was offered a full time job at the end of his summer position, which he declined.

He spoke perfect English (and I mean perfect) he had no decernable accent. He also spoke 5 other languages and had an MA in linguistics.

Spirou,

I've known about 4 teachers here who were of German nationality. Three of the four taught German at university level, while one taught at a language school in Seoul (sorry, I don't recall the school name, as it was 5 years ago.) Also, there are a few Europeans (mainland) teaching in language schools (hakwons) as an English teacher....so I suppose you could do the same.

I suggest coming over to Korea as a tourist and finding a school that'll sponsor you. You may want to try to be located near a couple of universities that offer German as a major, that way you could get a few privates with those students.

Our univ. has a German professor that also teaches at the language institute (on campus), but the Korean students find him pedantic and asinine....the students would probably prefer you.

I'll ask my Belgian friend how he came into his position as an English teacher, and post later.

Shoosh,

Ryst

Makan,

Well, my friend informed me that he was hired up by his school to teach French, but ended up teaching English. Not legal, but ....

Also, he said that once the E-2 is in hand, immigration hasn't bothered him when changing schools or the like..

Shoosh,

Ryst
