sometimes me and my k-wife will, unbeknowst to each other, wear a black shirt w/ a pink tie to our respective schools.
then we hook up later that night & go out on the town.
i think it's awesome, like we're part of some badass pink tie gang.

| I cannot support the wearing of pink ties by men, or women for that matter, sorry... |

| EDIT: Why did the b-word get bleeped on me but not on seoulshock. That's weird. |
I have a question also: Who reported me? Since my post is gone and all... anyway a lot of thought when into that!
And to answer your question, it's because there's a way you can put up any word you want without having it edited. It's a lot easier than you think... just remember it's not what YOU see it's what everyone else sees. |

Oh yes I remember hearing that little trade secret at the get together. I mocked the concept for being too much effort just to use a common word.

Would you rather she be afraid of being seen in public with you?
Consider yourself fortunate to have a Korean girlfriend who is comfortable enough with you, waygook. |

I like the word "manpuppy". I'm going to try to use that in a sentence later on.
I was discussing "couple-style" with my students, and they really couldn't believe the derision it provokes among Westerners. The most succinct answer I could muster for their cries of "Why? Why?" is that "We think 'different' is good. Same is bad." I know it's trite, but we do really value individualism, and to give up one's personal identity in a relationship is really frowned upon, even symbolically.
In high school, my boyfriend and I had bought the same black t-shirt with a Celtic design. We showed up one day both wearing them by accident. One of us went home to change. |

?? I can't remember-- probably whoever's house was closer. Listen, man, I don't like being pushed around on account of my gender, so I certainly don't do it to anyone else. |

Yeah, when I type "Listen, man" I can sound pretty scary, but you know I'm just a fluffy bunny. I mean, froggy.
Watch out, or next time I may preface my comments with a stern "Hey, buddy." You never know. |

Manpuppy bristled when a reporter
asked if the debt-underwriting market
had entered a period of
dog-eat-dog competition.

There was a near-fluent English-speaking Korean girl in her mid-20s who worked in my office. Early to mid-'90s this would have been. We got to be pretty good friends, despite her political nativism, her anti-West/US-ism masquerading as radical leftism, her knack for seeing all sorts of insidious attempts by the world (i.e., US and Japan) to do down the glorious nation. (Mind you, this was ages & ages before the Sunshine Policy.) All in all, a very typical Korean university graduate, but far better command of the English language than 90% of them.
Anyway, she'd regularly read my foreign magazines & newspapers when I was done with them. Businessweek, AWSJ, IHT, FT. Once when she was reading them, she started making those disgusted sounds that Koreans will: "ch!" "hng!" "ch!!!" So I glanced up and asked what she found so deplorable or ridiculous. Turns out she was reading those local (US/UK) or satellite TV listings that international papers will have. It was some children's programme, don't remember which. The summary went: "In this week's adventure, Jimmy and his little friends learn about the dangers of conformity..." She looked almost livid, despised the very notion, and was going off about how Korea needs to keep this shiite out of the country, and "real defences" need to be made against this sort of "cultural pollution". Jawohl!! (same chick who'd have been demo-ing against censorship under Chun or Roh )
But the couple-style thing, I just figure Koreans like teams and being members of teams. To them, marriage (or the romance that may lead up to it) is the creation of the paramount "uri team", no? Maybe for some Korean girls, getting their boyfriend to wear matching pink baseball caps and matching sequined "Hello Kitty!" T-shirts might possibly be a demasculating thing at a subconscious level, but hey -- I can imagine that's not such a quantum fashion leap to make for a lot of Korean guys I've seen.

heheh... Yeah. For some inexplicable reason -- okay, okay, for reasons of poor reading comprehension, skimming instead of reading, and being distracted by something -- I initially misinterpreted Kermo's general-outlook-on-life comment to be a verbal projectile aimed squarely at Seoulshock's noggin. So to me in my distracted, not-paying-full-attention state, it read as: "Listen here, fool! I don't appreciate you pushing me around on account of my gender, damnit!! " So for a second there I was all: "Whooooa!! " ha haa!
