Do the Seoul travel agents advertise their specials in any English (or even Korean) language newspaper?
Forgive me if I make some comparisons to Bangkok in this question (I do like Seoul better dispite all the hassles). In Bangkok to get an idea of ticket prices, a person can pick up any English language newspaper, go to the classifieds, and see ads from 9 or 10 travel agents showing ticket prices anywhere in the world. Most of them are teaser ads, but it is a way to get a lower limit idea for ticket prices. Is there anywhere the Seoul travel agents advertise?
My problem is this. I have made two reservations Seoul to Los Angeles in October (KE and Asiana). I have been quoted prices of $1800 for the one month discount rate tickets (I will travel one week). This is odd because I always flew from Bangkok to Los Angeles for $600 to $800, and the plane stopped in Korea on the way! And that travel was always peak season over Christmas and New Year. October is "fringe" season according KE, not even peak. So I just can't figure out what I am missing, and I thought if I can see a big page with many travel advertisements, then I can start to understand.
Thanks,
Drew

If you are in Korea... the Korea times and Hearald both list tons in the classified section.

If your computer has KOREAN language enabled, then you can go to http://www.whypaymore.co.kr/ and get current ticket pricing...
As of today ICN - LAX is from (These are NOT direct flights. ) 550,000 won on EVA (via Taiwan) and 601,000 won on American (via Narita-Japan) and Korean air direct at w937,000. (pricing is one way)

As has often been moaned about on this board, you basically reserve a whole bunch of seats months ahead of time and then wait until a few weeks before depature to find out the cost. However avoid asiana and KAL as they tend to be on the more expensive side.

Zanadu has a good special on Thai Airway for LA via Bangkok (I'll take advantage of the detour to get some shopping and a couple of good massages on the way to LA) for about 1,100,000 (return) BUT, there is a big gas surcharge on top of the taxes.

It was the best price I could find for the beginning of July. If you can leave before the end part of June, prices are better.

That whypaymore website looks realy good. Great ticket prices.
I have to log in to check flights, but they dont accept my Alien Registration Number as a Korean ID number. I had a Korean Coworker call them and they said that Foreigners are not allowed to log in and make reservations on their website. Can I ask how others got around this? If you log in with a Korean Persons ID, can you make the ticket in your name and not theirs? Or do you just call?
Thanks,
Drew

Here is a list of a bunch of travel agents in Korea. Email them and find out their best price. I've had good luck with Christine from Freedom Travel, and with kang wystan at zenith.
