I have been offered a position in Nam Hae but wondered what it is like to live there?

I ideally wanted to be closer to Busan! Is Nam Hae tiny?

The position has the best holidays I have been offered by far at 6 weeks everyone else offered 10 -14 days so Im prepared to take it for that alone Hours are also good at 9 - 2

All in all it sounds perfect for me, only downside is that I will be the only foreign teacher but I will have the chance to teach at other locations!

Anyone living there at the moment? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I am at a job nearby and its proximity to Namhae Island was relevant in my decision making to be here.

Namhae has a great swimming beach: Sangju. I mean, first rate. I travel the beaches across the peninsula in the summer (you can be anywhere by noon on Saturday if you don't mind the cheap, comfortable intercity buses) and I haven't swam at a finer place. The bay is huge at Sangju, with calm water due to islets breaking the waves, the water is warm and not very deep, the sand is great and there's plenty for even the many partying weekends (popular tourist site for Koreans on weekends, it's yours to enjoy during the week crowdfree). Developed restaurants and even 10,000 won tenting set up for my convenience.

I've been to Namhae about thirty times in three years, and am going there again in two weeks. It has 22 buses daily to Jinju, a city with intercity bus routes to Busan, Daegu, Seoul, etc. so you can go travelling on the weekends as I have, or else hang out locally and wait to get around during your extra vacation time!

Get a scooter (no special license required) or motorbike and enjoy the roads and sights there!

As for friends: I'll visit you. And you'll certainly meet a few other foreigners thereabout. And Koreans who speak some English come out of the woodwork and are worth interacting with to learn about the culture, get to know local restaurants, help you adjust and get info, etc.

I thought I had seen a post by you somewhere about Namhae, thanks for the pm too I will hit you back after work today!!!

You must be one of the 4 foreigners in the local area then!!!! Just 3 more to find!!!!! I think being the only foreigner is my only real worry to be honest everything else sounds perfect!!!

One question VanIslander -

I will be contracted to one school but the recruiter states I will be teaching at 4 schools through the week!! Does this sound acceptable?? Is this the norm in a small town??

No, it's not! You're not allowed to teach anywhere except for the place listed on your contract and ARC. You can get permission from immigration to work at more than one location. Your boss just has to go to immigration and fill out a form and hand in your ARC.

A few days later you get your ARC back with an ammendment on the back stating you extra working location. It will cost your boss, not you, 60,000won for each extra location that you will teach at.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. if you get caught teaching at another location without permission, you will probably be deported with a five year ban placed on you entering Korea and a large fine. Your boss will get a slap on the wrist and a small fine.

i agree with the advice of others

INSIST that you will ONLY work at locations on your ARC or approved in writing by immigration.

No exceptions.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse and if caught in a crackdown (which do happen occasionally) you could find yourself shipped out.

Be FIRM and polite and don't frown or get upset. But make sure they know you are NOT flexible on the point.

If you're gonna go illegal then do a hundred privates and pull in a year's salary in two months of privates!

Otherwise, everything by the book. What is SAID is not enough. Get it in writing.
