Anyone working there or worked there? I've had a look at the tourist websites and there doesn't seem a great deal to do (after visiting the tourist spots). Ok -I'm looking for a bit nice scenery ect, but I need to know if I'll go mad after a couple of months..

Thanks

yes and no. You could go mad anywhere after a couple of months.. and at least Haendae is part of Busan and you can hang around there and go to other places. There are much worse places to be in Korea.

I dont know any schools there or anything but I love the place in Summer, it's buzzing. Go there every year. Kwangalee nearby too which is also nice. Nice bars and restaurants at the Westin Choson and the Hyatt as well ~ I am pretty sure you cant go wrong with Haeundae, if I didn't live in Seoul that is where I would choose to work.

Yep, anyplace in Korea can get you down, but the sea air and beach do have a way of making things a little bit easier to take. Western restaurants whenever you feel the need, hotels for splurging, and the streets are wider and cleaner than a lot of other places. I wouldn't live anyplace else. But you won't find too much to do there--it is a beach after all, not a cultural hub. It depends exactly what you want to do. I don't think there is anyplace in Korea that won't get tiring after awhile.

And its nice and quiet in the winter, though I wouldn't recommend swimming then. Wink

At first glance it looks attractive... but really its not. You can't enjoy yourself at Haeundae because any time the option exists, the place is overrun with people, with literally no room to move.

Secondly, Pusan is a toilet, so much industrial waste and raw sewage is dumped along the entire coast there all the way up to Ulsan.

Though it might be your style, Pusan has edge. You got Russian sailors and the scores of ladies who cater to them, Japanese salarymen gambling in the casinos the quirkiness of the Kyungsando Koreans...

Well, that's my question: Are there any decent hotels in the Haeundae area, in line with the PNU-district ones [35 to 45 thousand won]? I know it's summer time and all........
Thank you

Haeundae has some excellent hotels, although I don't know anything about pricing. It's the touristy beach in Busan to see and be seen, although it can get badly crowded in summertime on weekends. I think it would be a good place to live and work, and has lots of nightlife.

If you just want beach, there's four others in Busan, and you could look for work near those strips. You can get to most of them within an hour anyway on the subway.

The very central beaches such as Songdo are admittedly dirty, and Koreans can be bad litterbugs, but the beaches on the outskirts such as Dadaepo and Haeundae are fine to me. They're only warm enough for swimming for 1-2 months of the year anyway.
