Ahhh, the season of sweat. My favoirte Korean season appears to be starting, and it actually seems a few weeks late this year.

Starting to look like we may have seen the last of blue skies until a heavy rain clears them out (where's Spinoza now and his pictures of 'beautiful' Korea Wink )

Window's open and it's still nice and chilly with the breeze.

Busan still ok...but when July rolls around...typhoons and rain for a few weeks....but you know I prefer a 3 week rain fest over a 5 month deep freeze no light winter anytime.... Laughing

They're starting but definitely not here yet. It's not that hot at night, nor can I feel the humidity.

I've yet to experience the dreaded summers of Korea, but Christ almighty am I getting warned about them from foreigners and Koreans alike. How bad could it really be? I've experienced south Florida in July. In a suit and tie, no less. 90 F (35 or so C I think) and enough humidity to make your eyelids stick shut. But jeez, you get used to it. And you slow yourself down and you don't really sweat.

Are the whiners all Canadians or something? Fat? It ain't Vancouver, that I know, but is it really any worse than say Miami? If I can handle Miami, then surely I can handle Korea?

Whiners all Canadian? No. I'm Australian and I haven't felt so hot in Australia as I have in Korea. The heat in my provincial city in the south of the country just seemed to radiate up from the street and the concrete apartment blocks during August. I don't have air conditioning at home and maybe the south is hotter but I found it, for not a long period of time I have to admit, much worse than a 40 degree day in Sydney or Brisbane.

Beware heat rash. Tight fitting clothes+ dust+ humidity. It is a bit worse in Taiwan though...

call me crazy, but i don't have a problem with the heat here. last year, i think i was the only one of my friends that wasn't complaining about the heat. but that just comes from living in Vegas for 11 years and going through 50C temps for a couple of months a year. and for all of you who say it's only a dry heat, i also lived in Texas, where it got to 40C with quite a bit of humidity, and found the Vegas heat much worse. then again, that's just me.

Summer in Korea really isn't "fun in the sun". We'll get the grill fired up, have people over for an outdoor party, parasol tables & chairs set out -- and everyone's going indoors to huddle around the A/C, and they bring their food & drinks inside and just stay there. Damn it, it's supposed to be a garden party, but after an hour guests find it too oppressive. So it becomes an indoor party. The rooftop party was a one-time-only unmitigated disaster. Even with parasols, people were sizzling up there like slices of bacon on a griddle. Parties are supposed to be fun, not tests of physical endurance. That's Korean summer for you.

How about not having a garden summer party on a concrete roof? Laughing Laughing

It's wood & tile covered, Homer. Not bare concrete. I'm thinking of installing one of those massive misting machines, you know, a miniature version of the type they used at the Barcelona Games? That or a retractable canopy. Yes. That would be cool! And Cool
