787,000won for a return ticket from Busan to Phuket, July 29 to August 6th.
My manager said this is the best price I'll get at that time of year. Should I snatch it up before tickets are no longer available?
Please advise.

I have been to Thailand many times and have never paid that much for flying into Bangkok. Now if you are going to a place like PHuket it is quite reasonable, but for Bangkok it is ridiculous. I am flying in June for 520.00 which includes a 90.00 Won tax. If you want I can refer you to my agent.
Mind you the prices change each month, so July may be more expensive, but not as much as you quoted.

Note that in the original post he was flying from BUSAN to PHUKET.
That particular time (last week of July) is the busiest time for travel in/from Korea.
TO the original poster... yes... book that flight... it won't get any better. |

I don't understand what the big obsession with Thailand is around here.
For example the Korean Air website advertises Busan-Fukuoka-Busan for 251,700 won RETURN on those exact same dates.

Click on International Fares.
Why on earth people pay $500 more to go on vacation to a hot, dirty, polluted place 5 hours flying away, when they can jump across to Japan for much less. |

a weekend scraping in it Japan would afford you a full week in relative luxury anyway in Thailand... pretty obvious i thought |

I'm sorry. Anyone who is paying just on 800,000 won to fly to Thailand (for a non-essential trip) deserves to be ripped off.
Is it any wonder airlines are brazen enough to post such artificially high prices, when there are so many suckers here willing to pay that much.
Last year when I went, I paid about 343,000 and even that I felt, was probably too much. |

I think the OP would save a great deal of money by hopping on the KTX and flying from Seoul. The quote is outrageously high, especially in the lowest of low season. I would go to Bali for that money. No travel agent is ever going to tell you "You're paying too much!" or "Relax! There's plenty of tickets left! No rush!"

The end of July-beginning of August is the highest time of the year, next to Christmas to travel to Thailand. Unfortunately the rest of the country is travelling at that time of the year as well. The tickets, although expensive compared to the rest of the year, will not get any better, and will sell out. Buy them as early as possible if you really want to go. If you can go at a different time of the year, I would suggest waiting for a few weeks and you would get the same tickets for much less money.
As for the person that asks what the attraction to Thailand is, well I can only say, it is one of the nicest places in the world to have a vacation. As for a hot and dirty country, that would also include Korea, China, The Phillippines, etc. For the money, Thailand is the way to go. |

My wife and I have just travelled this road with our agent. The cheapest flights were pre July. We are travelling on those same dates and we opted for Taiwan because the flights were still around 500,000 won, all other destinations, 700,000 won plus. It's the peak time and travel is going to be expensive. |
