... does anybody know? I've been thinning out on top for the last few years, and yet none of my Korean contemporaries seem to be affected in this way. Back home, plenty of my buddies have similar "hair issues".

Is this another victory for Kimchi? Or is it something to do with always having an umbrella handy?

As a traditional culture, I'm led to believe that hair is the only vanity a Korean man has. I'm probably wrong about this, though.

The ratio of bald korean males vs other nations is about the same according to recent studies published in a korean medical magazine. I know of hundreds of bald korean men and a few women who are also losing it. If you're in seoul, and drive around or walk the streets, you will finds hundreds of shops selling men's hair pieces! Hundreds! The same with busan, dague, jeju, etc. A number of korean movie stars also wear hair pieces.

Maybe things even out after 50 or so, but I'm talking about guys in their late 20's, early 30's. Not even the tiniest patch of scalp showing...

What about the lack of grey? Hardly anyone seems to have grey hair. Even the old ajummas have only grey streaks. In a western country, the women, and men, would all have grey hair.

A Chinese-Canadian friend of mine once told me that baldness is related to oil found in fish. So, if you eat a lot of fish, you won't have as much of a problem with baldness. I have done exactly 0 tests to confirm this.

It seems to me that the combover ratio in Korea is higher than the west.

What an excellent way for a man to fool the world that you are not bald, with a combover. Even better when he combines that with fooling the world he is not overweight by belting his trousers around/above his stomach!

I remember reading a study once that said that iodine-rich food can sometimes reverse/slow balding. The study caught my eye because my grandmother used to make a folk remedy for baldness from seaweed. Seaweed is rich in iodine...and Koreans do eat a lot more seaweed than westerners so maybe....???

Perhaps its genetic.. and Koreans don't really have the genetic gene.. or very little of it anyhow..

I blame it on the combover and the hair in a can stuff.
Older korean men and women are definatly bald, but i really can't say that ive seen to many younger guys with bald spots.
