If you can buy some fresh lemongrass with only the slightest hint of roots, you can put it in a glass of water until you have healthy roots. Plant it in an very large pot (the root system gets immense!) and watch it take off. Put it in a pot, not in the ground, because it will never survive a Korean winter.
If you can't find any, you can try to arrange to get some from me. Anyone going to Daegu can pick it up from me.

That sounds pretty easy--next time I go to the Thai place I'll have a good look at those shoots.
I'm sure lemongrass wouldn't survive a Colorado winter either!
Fresh is always better for cooking--especially in green curries.
Thanks for the tip! |

here's an update on my garden:
my beans are still thriving. the tallest vines have already grown taller than me:
the two avocados i planted have finally sprouted and are doing well. i suppose i'll need to transplant them outside somewhere:
my lemons are really doing well... i have no idea what i'm going to do with them. they can't all survive in this little box, that's for sure:
and here is a look at my outdoor garden:
with a close-up of the bigger of the two 'giant pumpkin' seeds that ya-ta boy sent me:

Well I said I was going to do some gardening this year.... here it is. It's all been growing like stink. The yellow dahlias are as big as sunflowers.
The above garden used to look like this--rocks. A tragic waste of growing space. One of the first things I did when we moved here was get rid of those
And the tomato garden. It used to look like this. Another tragic waste of growing space. Baked clay as hard as cement once I cleared out the weeds and geo-textile:
I shored up the sides, built another garden below it (with shored-up sides as well), added untold amounts of soil amendments, and my husband tilled the hell out of all it. Planted tomato plants I raised from seed (those are "Nugget" beer hops growing up the dead tree by the way) It then looked like this:
Now it looks like this:
This is just the view of the jungle from above--it's worse in the garden below this one. There are green peppers and all kinds of herbs growing in there as well. I really don't know how I'm going to get into it to pick the tomatos without damaging plants--any little paths I made at the beginning are completely overgrown now. I'm not ruling out being suspended over it from a crane-like device
There are beans, grapes and rhubarb growing on the lower levels. It's been a great season!
Bonus pic If I leave the backyard gate open our friends come over:
