Hello everyone,
I'll be traveling to Hong Kong in a couple months and I'm looking for info on things to do, sights to see, places to visit, etc. I've never been there before so any info you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I lived in Hong Kong for 15 years, so I know a little bit about it.

Shopping is very good. Causeway Bay and Mong Kok at night. There is a night market in Mong Kok called "Ladies Market" it has lots of stuff not just for the ladies.

Food: Awesome and the dirtier the place may look, it will probably have the most delicous Cantonese cuisine.

Outdoors: Sai Kung is quaint and beautiful with mountains, sailing and many little shops and restuarant. Other areas would be Clear Water Bay, Stanley, etc. Also, Hong kong has an elaborate network of mountain trails. Maclehouse, Hong Kong and the Wilson trails. Miles of trails--I use to do the Maclehouse in less than 48 hours-over 62 miles.

The outlying islands are a must: Lamma, Cheung Chau and Lantau.

MOST important and unforgettable is to take the Star Ferry across the harbor at night.

Nightlife: There are a few nice areas in the midlevels Lam Kwai Fong and a newer area called Soho. Also Wahchai, Tsim Sha Tsui are o.k.
Anyway, if you have questions please message me

I'm sure a similar thread can be found on search.

You don't say how many days you have. My shortlist would be:

1 Afternoon-evening on The Peak. Go up by tram. Descend by bus.
1 Afternoon-evening at Tsim-Tsa-Tsui promenade waterfront
1 day at Shek-O beach
1 day to visit Big Buddha and Tai-O on Lantau
1 half-day shopping (anywhere)
Sunday dim-sum breakfast/lunch

Previous thread on topic

Thread #2 on HKG

A 3rd thread that has info on HKG

The power of the search function is amazing.

Might also want to check out LP's thorn tree for HKG info.
