I get a one week vacation in October, and was wondering how much I could see and do in China.
I'm interested in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan...but I know I wouldn't be able to see all of this in a week.
For those of you who have been, what do you recommend?
I know I could at least do Beijing/Shanghai, but I'd like to see if I could do something else as well. Thanks!

Would you fit Seattle, Miami, Boston and Honolulu into a one-week trip?
Suggestion: Do Beijing OR Shanghai OR Hong Kong/Macau OR leave China and go to Taiwan. |

Lets see... October... that will be the time of the lantern /moon festival in China.
It may be a little bit chilly in Beijing.
HongKong/Macau will be nice that time of year.
You can confortably get a nice bit done in HK/MAcau in a week. 4 days in HK, 2 or 3 for Macau.
Ater the old Portugese architecture, the maritime museum, trip to Taipa and Colone, Macau tower and the casinos you have pretty much done Macau. You do need to have dinner at LORCHA while you are there.
HK has lots to see and do. Easy to fill in the remainder of your week there. |

If your holiday coincides with National Day in China (October 1st), I'd pick another destination. Travel is going to be next to impossible during that week. If it's otherwise, you could always hit Beijing and Xian...the two biggest draws in the country. You could also split the week in both Shanghai and Beijing, taking a night train between the two. |

Id agree with the Hong Kong/Macau in a week. Would also save u the heassles of a chinese visa too, personally i didnt gthink much of Beijing or Shanghai as cities, some great things to see but not the most pleasant cities- especially Beijing. Hong Kongs great though, id go for that |

Just select ONE of those places and spend your whole vacation there. There's plenty of interest in each of the places you mention, so you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. |
