Lone Star Chief Labels Seoul 'Anti-Foreign'
John Grayken, founder and managing partner of Lone Star Funds, Tuesday said that Korea's criticism of the fund's investment in the Korea Exchange Bank (KEB) was driven by an "anti-foreign political climate" in Korea. "The hostile, anti-foreign investor political climate has created great uncertainty for us as investors in Korea," Grayken said in a news conference in New York.

I think a debate between RR and Patchy would be fun to watch.
Neither of them bother to answer any direct questions. It'd be like watching Burt and Ernie have a pillow fight.... just a whole lotta' fluff. |

actually the gm daewoo thing isn't quite right... i met nick reilly once and asked him about that story. he replied that it had been blown way out of proportion and that he had never wanted the job anyway.
however on the anti-foreign question, i think its hard to deny that there's a lot of prejudice here about foreign capital. of course nobody complains when a foreign fund comes in with a load of money, creating jobs and so on, but as soon as they have the temerity to take a profit on their investment, wow! you never hear the end of it! |

If you looked carefully enough, I responded to that, but then again, I used the word "carefully" here, so I understand if you misinterpreted it. Once you see my response, please feel free to retract your comments. Regardless of that, based on your previous posting record, I will state my personal opinion as clearly as I can:

Only Seoul? The whole country is pretty much the same. Ask anyone from Wall-Mart to Toyota or the foreign KAIST president. In this regard there is virtually no difference between the South and North. Another reason I will never buy Korean products unless there's absolutely no choice. |

But you will have no problem taking their money?
Is Seoul anti-foreign? Thats questionable. However am I the only one who thinks Lonestar should actually pay taxes off money they made in Korea? Screaming about xenophobia doesnt really convince me there is so much of it if the one screaming it is doing it because he is expected to pay taxes. Also, as there really isnt anyone here who knows what really went down, maybe you really should refrain from forming wild theories. |

Business people say a lot of things usually designed to make them sound right or atlast victims of an evil and all powerful enemy. Doesnt make them right. Am I to believe that LoneStar is some benevolant company who steped in to save KEB out of the goodness of their hearts? Im not saying theres no anti foreign bias, just that the motivation behind the CEO's statements is not exactly pure. He doesnt want to be taxed, and it looks like he will be so he plays the xenophobia card. There may be some truth to it, probably is, but theres a different side to it too, and usually it revolves around money and how much they can get away with.
Again, who here knows the actual truth? Nobody? Ok, so keep that in mind. |

Foreign investment in Korea has dropped 27% from the previous year. The word is out on Korea--on how they do business, do not honor contracts, force foreign companies to pay bribes and extra fees if they do happen to make any money.
It's like the Hagwon business but with better logos. |

Why should I have any problem taking their money? They take plenty of money from people in my country all the time. Besides, they offered.
Theories? You're joking, right? Xenophobia is rampant here. Only a total fool would suggest this country is cosmopolitan and open to foreigners or their products. If you need evidence I suggest you count the brand names of the next hundred cars that pass you. Seriously man, think about what you just said. |

Um no I doubt they offered. I bet you asked them for a job first.
is this place open to foreigners? Yes, it is. Ive done well here in 5 years, Ive never had anything bad happen to me, never faced any discrimination, infact Ive USED the fact that Im different to my advantage and have been published in Korean magazines. That came about to a large extent because Im a foreigner and it opens a lot of doors for me. Yes, I bet you are having a hard time, because it seems to me you are a bitter fool with nothing to offer that would open any doors for you. I would put myself in your shoes but Im having a hard time thinking like a total reject. So no empathy from me, young man. |

It's amazing how quickly Jinju responds to any thing hinting negativity towards Korea. Jinju is the ultimate apologist. |
