| Anyone know the going rate? Used to be about a million won I think. Not sure what it is now. Maybe 500,000 won? Things seem to have cooled down a bit in the Korean job market and recruiters aren't able to get as much as they used to get from the schools due to a glut of available teachers and not that many jobs. Are recruiters still making money? |

| Some schools will pay a premium for the 'right' candidate. I'm sure we all know what she looks like, how old she is, and where she's from. |

The market has cooled, I am told, because there are recruiting companies drastically cutting the fees. Companies that charge 1 million for decent teachers are not getting the contracts because there are some companies offering less qualified and less experienced teachers at a much lower price.
Like it or not, each teacher has a price on their head as far as recruiters are concerned.
The Koreans are furious about this, but I tried to use the comparison of supermarkets undercutting the ma and pa stores back home.
I was naturally not understood.
The basic rate is about 1 million.
But if Miss California comes in with blonde hair, blue eyes, big....smiles a Masters in Linguistics and a B.Ed with 5 years experience in Korea, a company can ask for a little more. |

If Miss Nova Scotia comes in with blond hair, blue eyes, big.... a BA in computer programming, and no experience whatsoever, ready and happy to teach kindy they can ask for just as much. |

There is no glut of available teachers. And yes recruiters are still making money. |

Public school systems pay 700k per E2.
Hakwans pay from 500k to 1 months salary depending on the recruit (who, where from, gender, age, color) and desperation.
Blonde haired American girls who are willing to teach kindy are worth their weight in gold to a recruiter.
Old guys with 20 years experience and doing a midlife career change are a dime a dozen to a recruiter.
Supply and demand. Shortage of teachers... but also a shortage of MARKETABLE faces.... SLAVE gets the same package... but recruiter has a very easy time to place one and hard time to place the other.
Here in the land of gender bias and gender stereotyping.. every mother wants a blond haired, California type for their kids Kindy teacher...
Older men CAN'T be good teachers for little kids (can they?) Is possible? No... must get young, white girl. Men are for mens work. |

This made me laugh. The mothers prefer Barbie to Mr. Bubbles.
So you get a bunch of kiddies saying
"ba-bye. Ba-bye now. Ba-bye" rather than
"Thankyou for the candy old man in the trenchcoat!" |

It will vary on the school (hakwon vs public) and on what they want....
There is not shortage of jobs however...quite the opposite! |

That is high...in Seoul? Surprised.
If you are good enough, that price might be fair.
Your students stand on the tables after each of your classes yelling Captain. My captain!? |

Thanks for the info. I run a recruitment company in Canada and I recruit blue eyed, blonde white skinned graduates directly out of our fine universities. I haven't been active for a few years (busy with school) but I'm getting back into business now (just posted some ads at a couple of Ontario Unis, should get some apps in pretty soon). The pickings are actually pretty good over here if you advertise at the right school. There are plenty of 4 year arts degree holding, virtually unemployable 20 something white faced university grads with lots of student debt who want to "travel and see the world". I get quite a few resumes.
later.... |

maybe you should try advertising to schools in Korea rather than to teachers.
Not sure of the purpose of your post now. |
