...are there any bars in this town to meet normal people? I mean, I don't want to offend anyone here (except Patchy, who will doubtlessly insist that my problem is somehow caused by the Grand International Zionist Conspiracy, Seoul Chapter), but it seems like most of the places people talk about are either ones that they head to with their friends already, or places they go for fairly superficial conversations with Koreans.
I'm wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for a bar in town where I might have even the slightest chance of a reasonably intelligent conversation with someone in English over some drinks? |

It's cliche for sure, and a gamble, but I've gone into Seoul Pub and ended up chatting with various people. They don't do cigars, but there's all types in there. Same with 3 Alleys, although people don't seem quite as willing to strike up random chats there. |

Ok, it's been an hour now with 87 views and no replies. I really hope that's a sign of people giving some serious thought to good places to meet reasonably intelligent people (instead of the more traditional mindless wild party types that I see represented in so many bar stories around here), and not an indication of the lack of any such people.
Seriously, someone's gotta know of somewhere calm but populated to get to.
Edit: Thanks Zyzyfer, I was typing at the same time.

Are you asking where there is a place that's guaranteed to be populated with sitting around hoping you'll approach and engage them in drunken debates about thisism and thatism?

Actually what I'd really like is a place where I walk in the door and I'm presented a small group of intelligent people who were selected for me especially (without me needing to call ahead, of course), with one particularly intelligent and good-looking Korean girl who agrees with me that the last few years of Cuban cigars have been dramatically overrated.
You know of somewhere like that in town? Because that would just be great. |

Hah, I didn't want to see this head straight to the graveyard without at least one reply. I have to admit that I didn't give it a lot of thought, though, as there's not much of what you're looking for around... |

And Korean girls don't smoke! Especially not cigars!
(I'm drinking.) |

Yes, of course I know of places like that, but I'm not gonna shed my secrets on a public forum! That place will be crawling with icky, slimy foreigners in a heartbeat.
Sorry to take your thread to the graveyard.
Here's a little advice: bring the intelligent conversation with you. It's pretty easy to steer a conversation. |

I think I should have been a little more specific. My problem isn't so much with the level of the conversation, but with regards to the level of English-speaking to be found. Most of the places I've gone (chosen fairly at random) don't seem to have too many people with good levels of English.
I'm not looking for somone to get into arguments regarding Camus' ontological arguments (though how sweet would that be?), just a bit more than I'm used to finding.
Oh, and

Are you talking about my postings about the so-called Holocaust in this thread?

(BTW, the "Seoul Chapter" seems to be quite active against me here.)
It's not only non-Jewish people who think the Holocaust is a lie and Zionists are a problem, it's also Jewish people.

A little deduction should sort you out...
Think which kind of Korean girls will have the best grasp of English... which industries will they work in? Banking, consultancy, law, English language media etc etc., these girls are generally a higher class.
Where do they go? Places where they aren't hassled by a batch of greasy ESL teachers. All the places mentioned on here you aren't going to find these girls. They aren't hanging out in Rocky Mountain Tavern, The Loft, 3 Alleys Pub, same way the people working those jobs back home wouldn't be in that kind of establishment. |

Excellent deduction--this is just the kind of thinking that we need!
Now that we've established where they won't be, we need to think about where they will be... |

I'm saying think outside the box. It's obvous where the types you're looking for won't be, and it's equally obvious where they will be.
If you want to don a suit and slick yourself up some I'll take you to a prviate BBQ party this Saturday which will be full of the type of girls you're looking for. Air hostesses, bankers, consultants, lawyers, media types etc etc... |
