Anyone know anything about E-2 visas?
Mine runs out on the 30th August, when my contract ends, but i want to hang around until about the 4th of September.
Will i have to extend it?
Am I likely to be fined ar anything on exiting the country if I don't?

I had a similar problem at the end of my first year. After the contract finished, I wanted to move to a new apartment. I stayed an extra two days, not realising it would be a problem. They caught me at the airport and there was a bit of drama getting out of the country, but I ended up paying nothing. |

If you want to stay past your date, but not work, there are no problems. Just go to immi with your ticket out of the country that leaves within 30 days of the expiration of your ARC, and they will extend for no charge, and it takes about 10 minutes. You must do this before your ARC expires.
If you overstay, you can be fined up to 100.000 per day. Just do the extension early and save yourself the hassles.

ASKED and ANSWERED in the FAQs and stickys.
Yes, you need to get an extension.
Yes, you CAN be delayed, and/or fined if you do NOT have one.
A short extension is FREE.
To get the extension:
+within the last 30 days of your visa go to the immigration office
+take your passport, ARC and AIRPLANE ticket.
Your visa/ARC will be extended until the time of your flight.
note: no ticket = no extension. |
