Yeah I had a language exchange yesterday and was talking to this girl about her trip to America. To test my theory that 100% of Koreans will say "American food is too greasy" when asked about the food, I asked her about the food. Her response was that American food is too greasy.

So I asked her specifically what she ate. You know, I was curious. She was there for three weeks. Here's what she ate: hamburgers, hot dogs, and Korean food. That's it! But mostly Korean food.

Laughing

Man I was laughing so hard, I hope it didn't upset her. Let's go to America, eat nothing but hamburgers, and then go around saying that American food is too greasy.

Tangentially, I've still never been able to get a good response when I ask Koreans why they think American food is greasy. I grew up eating food like baked chicken with steamed/boiled vegetables and some bread. There's nothing greasy about that. I just don't get it. Don't any of the American visitors ever have like, you know, a normal American meal? Maybe some Cracker Barrel or Boston Market? Nope. Just hamburgers and hot dogs, I guess.

Q.

She probably just ate what she saw a lot of the normal people eating wherever she went, and assumed that's american cuisine. All the fat butts in America seem to broadcaste that we like our hamburgers and hotdogs wayyyyyyy too much!!!!

it may be because americans eat so much italian food and mexican food and food from around that world that there's not a whole lot of stuff that's certifiably, originally american. of the stuff that is, it tends to be a bit greasy, but it doesn't make up the majority of our diet.

if you want to annoy this girl, tell her that you thought hamburgers were orginally a korean food because there's a mcdonalds/burger king/lotteria on every corner in seoul.

American diners are greasy though. American breakfasts as well as the burgers and such.

However, there are literally hundreds and hundreds of other non-diner choices which are extremely easy to search out if she's in an urban area.

Homecooked food in the house was never greasy though.. strictly a diner thing in my opinion based on my own upbringing and everyone else's house I've ever had a meal in.

The same can be said for Korean food, to be honest.

Samgyeopsal is really greasy. Pahjeon is very greasy, cos it's shallow fried. A lot of stuff has sesame oil in it, that's grease, too, right?

hmmmm......

I wonder what food isn't greasy in this world?

i'm sure you bought a guide book.

also, what do you think happened to that girl?
when the poeple she was staying with fed her, she ate korean food. when she was with her little friend, she ate popcorn and doritos, or whatever. when she had to find food by herself, she went to places that wouldn't totally overwhelm her, i.e. mcdonalds etc.

listen. i'm sure you're better than everybody, or whatever, but shut the *beep* up.

ps, if anyone is wondering why i know q is a douche, the first time i met him he implied that my guitar playing is soulless without having heard it, asked me what my girlfriends *beep* looked like, then offered her a ride on his moped.

You are the biggest 'douche' on here. When I go to other countries I don't go to restaurants that I could eat at on every corner back home. Just like Koreans could do in Korea by eating at McDonalds. I would think most other people are the same.

American food IS greasy. Everytime I have been there, I eat the same amount as I do back home, and I feel twice as full, and I always put weight whatever length of time I spend there. I know you have healthy food, its just that most food is so unhealthy, and the healthy food is tricky to get to.

Maybe my definition of greasy is not quite accurate, but to me greasy is fatty food, and of that theres plenty stateside.

Chinese food is greasy

American food is full of fat

(to speak in generalities, which always is choke full of exceptions: like waygooks who say that Korean food is spicy, yes, on average, but not all of course, many dishes have no red pepper paste, many, though not most)

Yeah, I think the chick meant that there's like butter and oil all over the place. Really heavy foods. Mashed potatoes? There's tons of butter and milk in that. Green beans? My family always stick a bunch of butter in it. Broccoli? Butter and cheese. Eggs? Fried in oil or butter.

There are of course exceptions, but I grew up in a home that did dinner like "1 meat, 2 veggies, bread on side, butter in practically everything." Kind of like new-age southern food.

my default answer to 'americans eat burgers every day is'...s

"really? do you eat dog everyday?"

maybe b/c theyre food doesnt vary and they DO eat kimchi and rice with every meal they think we are equally as uninventive.

What's all this grease-bashing here? Grease never killed anyone. Unless they fell in a big vat of it. Or someone pushed them in. And they couldn't climb out because the sides were too slippery and there was nothing to grab hold of. Then, yeah, grease could kill you.

But as we're pointing our greasy fingers at this or that ethnic/national cuisine, just remember this: There is no such thing as greasy foods, only greasy people. Greasy, slimeball, douche-bag people. Gotta watch out for them, they're bad for your health.
