I've heard rumours go around that there's some sort of big Canada Day party at the embassy in Seoul - does anyone know if there's weight behind such allegations, and if so, where one might find some more info? It sounds like a blast, in theory. |

It is usually on a Sunday before July 1st at the UN Compound in Itaewon. It is sponsored by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. They usually sell tickets in advance and SAY you can't buy them at the door...I always have, though. I can't remember the price but it includes a good meal and a couple beers. They will have Canadian beer and lots of fun stuff to do.
BEWARE...it is a drunk fest! It ends at about 6 and then the after party kicks in at a local pub. If you work that Monday you might want to call in sick.
There should be info through the Chamber of Commerce or by any Canadian who was here last year..
Take care, |

I am a little confused about one thing.... the linked websites mention the campgroound, but does not mention the UN Compound venue in Iteawon. So it is held at the Un Compound or is it held at the Campgroound? |

At the risk of sounding old, [whiney_voice] I remember the days when the Canada Day party had 200 people attend, and everyone pretty much knew each other. [/whiney_voice]. The last one I attended was about 4 or 5 years ago and it was a hellish experience. I reminded me of all the reasons I left Canada in the first place: drunk morons being rude ignorant arses and the inevitable scuffles between said drunken morons. It was after this particular event that I first heard the expression "Buncha drunk Canadians" used in completion of the sentence "What I really hate is..." regularly by bar owners, replacing the previous, "buncha drunk GIs". It was a day to be sad for. They ran out of beer way too early, and food was catered by the Outback SteakHouse - a truly Canadian institution if I ever saw one. I waited in line for over an hour to get my crummy steak and boatload of frikkin Lion's Club arses bullied their way in playing the "I'm old and special" card. Naaah, I'll save my 50,000 won and give it a miss again this year. You young whippersnappers go and have all the fun. |

Is Rush gonna be there? That's the only thing that would justify paying 50,000 to hang out with a bunch of Canadians. That would kickass. |

I asked about the price disparency.
The answer is the low price is for the burger meal option and the 57 000 is for the "jumbo" steak option.
I know what you mean about the drunken idiots section. I have seen it twice in two years. Now the first year was great in that there were some hockey sticks and we had a pretty good ball hockey game. Last year, no sticks and it was not nearly as much fun.
That and two years ago the beer was brewed in Montreal, the billingual packaging gave it away. Last year the Canadian was brewed in Korea or so it would seem again given that there was Korean on the bottle.
No matter I for one am seriously thinking about giving this one a miss. 40 000 won for a burger and a band that is so-so just to hang out on a campground. I am not so sure about that.

I'd be impressed if they had any kind of beer other than Molson. |
