|

I vaguely recall trying out the original SIN FPS some years back but as I recall it had some fierce competition at the time in the FPS realm and never really got much respect...
So now the Half Life folks have revived SIN through their STEAM downloads. Right now there isn't any big new FPS release so the timing might be perfect this time around.
And for FPS fans in Korea, you buy and download it from STEAM, so there is not slogging over to Yongsan/Technomart and no worrying about whether the dialogue and menus are all in Hangul or not.

As a general rule I don't part with my hard-earned moneyfor games which don't acheive at least an 80 on Metracritic, but this one is close: 78

So it looks like you get the original 1998 game re-tooled (on the source engine?) plus Sin Episodes, episode 1, plus Sin multi-player, $19.95 USD.
Sounds like a bargain if you're like me and jonsing for an FPS fix. |

I dunno...I have my hands full trying to get through Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter right now! It's quite difficult...or maybe I am rusty.
I played SIN a long time ago, after it was in the $4.99 bin. Not so bad at the time. Interesting to see how it plays out now. |

So I bought the 19.95 package the other day.
Sin1 is just that- exactly the same as it was 8 or 9 years ago (even then it didn't hold a candle to Half Life).
I haven't tried Sin1 multi-player, but if it's Sin1 then it's safe to assume it follows as per above.
So that really leaves you with Sin Episodes: Emergence. Damn is it ever gorgeous! beautiful environments, nicely done cut scenes...
but the 2 big factors on whether it's worth it or not are gameplay
(is it just running down tunnels shooting the same bad guys over and over again)
and length
(it's only 19.95 so it's going to be shorter than your average game, but how much shorter? Will they expect 19.95 per episode if every episode is just 3-4 hours of gameplay?).
I haven't played it enough to form an opinion yet.
It downloads easily enough and has no immediately noticeable bugs as far as I have seen. |

i found this game to be pretty mediocre and didn't hold my attention for long... along with many games nowadays. Maybe i'm just getting too old for games... sigh, i miss the days of mario and metroid and the original NES! |

I'm finding it to be a very beautiful looking FPS with average game play. Not bad for 19.95, but can't reecommend it unless you are an FPS fan who has already played Fear/Quake4/Doom/HL2/CoD/Cod2/Far Cry etc. and even then I'd recommend ghost Recon 3 instead.
The "HL2-Episode 1" prequel is due shortly and is being marketed on the same principles; Hopefully it'll be a lot better than Sin-Emergence. |

Same old story then. It's been this way generally for a while now, with only a few bright spots in an otherwise mediocre sea of games.
FPS I have enjoyed over the past while:
HL2, FEAR, SWAT4, Doom 3 and expansion, Quake 4 and recent expansion... |

What about the SWAT4 expansion? You missed out Far Cry too!
Sin Episode 1 is just a little dull. It doesn't have the storyline to allow them to stretch it over a series of releases. The best games right now are the Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Advanced Warfighter, and the Hitman Blood Money type of shooter. They've been plentiful in development recently. |
