I would steer clear of anything that Oprah pushe, simply because I have no interest in helping her media empire expand. Honestly, it seems like she has more power than the Pope! Speaking of Il Papa I'd like her to become the Anti-Pope (without the satanic image), "support gay marriage! Sex before marriage is great and condoms are wonderful! Smoke a big bowl everyday!"

Sigh

I voted that Tibby huffs gas.

I've come to live with the Oprah book list. The early days were rather uninspired... like all these Bill Cosby books... and Toni Morrison is a little over represented I think, but she arguably has a nice selection and a nice range. Personally, I can't see many people who watch Oprah reading or groking One Hundred Years of Solitude and part of me feels having the Oprah logo on the book is like watching Citizen Kane colorized .

All 'n' all, more power to the Oprah book list if she picks just good modern lit. She COULD load it up with "Ramtha Revealed", "Who Moved My Cheese", "Being Uri Geller" or whatever. That she doesn't, really, I gotta give her a shout out.

I wish these polls could have a default option like "Meh, could be worse."

I like her selections, in general. The only book I was ever really interested in (as a book club selection) was when she denounced James Frey's A Million Little Pieces. I just had to know what could piss off the benevolent Ms. Winfrey so much that she had to publicly castigate some poor writer (ok, I'm being strong, but she caused the poor guy way too much grief, IMO, even if it did drive up his sales).

Great, great book, btw. Not worthy of condemnation whether he stretched the truth or not. Lily killed herself, pure and simple. It doesn't matter when and how she did it. Just my 10 won...

I, proudly, and happily, dont watch tv, at all, except international sport once in a blue moon. Apart from being very popular and having a lot of influence, can people tell me what irks them so much about Oprah? She seems to invoke a very fierce response in those who are anti...
