Assuming you are qualified (read: alive and capable of obtaining an E2 visa).

Lets see.... crap hakwon... search time is about 1 day.
Visa processing is 12-20 days to be legal.. next flight if you or they are dodgey....

GREAT job...... maybe 1 month to find (depending on time of year)....
12-20 days for visa processing... 60 days... from "start looking" to "on-the-job".

Tips for private tutoring???

Step 1: Advertise in the local paper
Step 2: Get picked up by immigration for visa violations.
Step 3: Go to jail for a week or two while they process you.
Step 4: Pay your fine.
Step 5: Get deported and banned.

Maybe you should stay home... Less stress for your parents.
They won't have to worry about you rotting in a foreign jail that way.

Sounds like an ESL teacher in Korea board game.

If you want to teach privates, don't forget to get some name cards for yourself. Hand them out to everyone everwhere. That includes your students at the hagwon, too.

Laughing

Unfortunately for me, a year didn't seem all that long when I accepted the first job I was offered.

You're right. Maybe even half a day. I was told the date I was expected to be in Korea to start work four hours BEFORE my interview.

Don't listen TOO closely to the scaremongering by the way. When I was contract-picking I was off work with a fecked knee, and devoted a solid month to finding a decent hagwon position. Yes, they DO exist! Do your research into each area, school, and contract details and you can find a cracker. Most importantly, always make sure you speak to a few current/previous foreign teachers from each school you deal with. If I had listened to the majority of advice on this board I might not have bothered coming to Korea! Just relax, look into things thoroughly, and still remember to pack a little bit of patience, and life can be very sweet. Once you decide on a position you will probably start in a months time, roughly. Privates will seek you out eventually, I'm sure.
