It's a two-way street. Canada is America's biggest trading partner. I'm not trying to say that closing off trade wouldn't cripple Canada (I think it would) but it would cripple the States, too. The attitude that The United States (or any other country) can stand alone economically (or otherwise) is simply false and arrogant.

putting down all Americans just shows how ignorant the common Canadian really is.

Anybody else see the irony here? Wow!

It's been awhile since I've lived in Canada. If anything, I am pro-American.

I find it funny that most of the tv shows that Canadians watch are: AMERICAN. Same goes with movies. I can understand hating a sitting government. Heck you can do that with any country. But putting down all Americans just shows how ignorant the common Canadian really is.

It also shows how much the common Canadian lets this inferiority complex get to them.

Here you are presuming the average Canadian hates America. The average Canadian doesn't hate America, or Americans. Most probably dislike the government, but do separate it from the people.

Mr. Pink is exactly right that most of the tv shows that Canadians watch are American. A LOT of actors on those shows are Canadian. Most people probably don't even know who is Canadian and who is American, nor can they tell. They also probably don't know because they don't care.
Any person who thinks that the average Canadian dislikes Americans has a big misconception of the average Canadian. It's not like you go to Canada and there are vigilante groups hunting down Americans or stores that don't allow Americans, but from the way people talk on here, you would f-ing near think that.

I read this thread for simple amusement. You, Canadians, amuse me to no end. You are such simpletons void of the rational conditon. There is no such thing as a real Canadian, regardless of what the butchy Margaret Atwood extolls. You're nothing more than an extension of America. You have no real identity. If you want to really find yourself, look up you arsehole.

But you waste such rational maco economic comment on this illiterate lot. I can't believe that many here realize the importance to the Canadian social system of 88 cents of every dollar invested in Canada is from American trade and purhases. In otherwords, what we have to sell to feed our families is bought by America. Should they decide otherwise...STARVE. Please, no comments from the pinky Flotsam or the stupid Mindmeto on this. I don't know how much more stupidity I can handle from thise young simple souls.

You simple sh...t. Yes, I have been into the fruit of the vine tonight, but I am CANADIAN, you moron. Was it not I who witnessed Jean Belliveau score his 500th goal at the venerable Forum so many years past? And, yes, I do have a post graduate degree from one of Canada's better institutions; and, yes, it is not in linguistics (Flotsam..you so disappoint me here), and yes, I do play golf in the Carolina sun these days, and fish for blues on the Outer Banks when the sun warms the waters in late March. I troll not, you simple sh...t.

No more free juice rides for you non-Jersey scumballinos!!

Take that you, you ESL Teacher!! Yeah.

I've travelled quite a bit in Canada, and I've never had a problem. I didn't go around advertising I was an American, so there ya go. I also don't have problems because I don't discuss politics. The writer was a sociologist- I'm sure she liked to dig deep and clearly wasn't happy with what she found, but what did she expect? She gave an example about 9/11 that some woman complained she would have to change her travel plans because someone might mistake her for an American. I absolutely don't feel that that attitude was indicative of wide-spread Canadian sentiment at all. It was one selfish person who only cared about herself. I thought it was inflammatory that she wrote that as an example. As for the interview with the PR person, I don't know what her book was about, but if it was related to her experience in Canada or Canadian healthcare, perhaps she should've discussed Canada, its history, etc. more in her book.

I'm sure she had lots of great experiences in Canada that weren't mentioned, as well, because that would've nullified her article, eh? Wink

As for South Park, "Blame Canada" was funny at first (just because it's South Park. Um, whenever I've seen South Park, I was usually with a bunch of high/inebriated friends who used to tape every episode, so everything's funny when you are f-ed up^~). However, didn't it win some kind-of award? That went over the line, and I don't blame Canadians for getting pissed-off. Some things are funny, but there's a line, you know?

*Edit* Ok, I just googled the lyrics for "Blame Canada". Um, yeah- it's a nasty little song. Along the lines of Korea's "Bucking USA". Crying or Very sad

I guess its people like you who continue to fuel this ridiculous and needless situation of antagonism between the two countries.
