Recently found out that my current co-worker and I were both at the Tibetan Freedom Concert in San Francisco '96.
Anyone else?

Surely some of the 95 million Canadians here in Korea were at the Rolling Stones Concert in Vancouver. Steel Wheels tour. 1989 I think. The big astrodome there. Terrible acoustics. Living Colour were the support band.
I was there. Not much to write home about. |

No, I've never been to any of those.
How about:
Peter Gabriel, '83 Ottawa?
Bad Manners, Billy Bragg, Psychedelic Furs, Katrina and the Waves, The Fixx, General Public, The Villains, or Forgotten Rebels, all in Ottawa, some time during '84?
Sting, Ottawa '85?
The Kinks, Ottawa '85?
The Clash, Ottawa '85?
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ottawa '86?
Spirit of the West, Ottawa '87?
Bryan Ferry, Ottawa '88?
Amnesty Now! Tour, Montreal, '88?
Fishbone, London - Camden Town, '89?
The Jazz Butcher, Yes (Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe) or Eric Clapton, Brussels, '90?
Rock Werchter (Mano Negra - De La Soul - Jeff Healey Band - Lenny Kravitz - Ry Cooder/David Lindley - Wendy & Lisa - Sinead OConnor - Midnight Oil - Bob Dylan - The Cure), Werchter, '90?
The Wall - Roger Waters (and guests), Berlin, '90?
Barenaked Ladies, Ottawa, '91?
They Might Be Giants, Montreal, '92?
Inner Circle or Jeff Healy, Georgetown (BWI), '94?
Dave Matthews Band, Ottawa, '96?
Sting, Seoul '97? (There have got to be a few here who were there)
Dave Matthews Band, Ottawa, 2002?
Gomez, Ottawa, 2004?
Ted Leo, Ottawa, 2005? (Wierd to not even be 40 yet and still be the oldest person at the show)
I've skipped (and/or forgotten) some shows, but for the most part that's my complete concert history.

I wasn't listing my whole concert history, but OK.
You were at THE Berlin Concert?
That's cool.
I'd imagine there'd be an overlap in the Lollapalooza's. I skipped the first one because of $. Doh!
Apparently, Rage Against the Machine came to Korea while I was away. Anyone catch that? |

It was pretty wild.
Some concerts are more than just concerts, they are events, landmarks, we all know that.
But that one, it was on an entirely different scale.
I never did hear an accurate attendance number... something like 300,000?
And of course the setting, Potsdamer Platz- it had been part of the no man's land between East and West Germany full of barbed wire and machine guns, less than a year before. |

Other than the original Woodstock (summer of 1969 ) for which I actually bought a ticket and some free concerts on campus and at anti-war demonstrations, most concerts I've attended was in the role of an under-cover Hare Krishna of some sort (and I usually got to see the acts for free...)
I was one of many devotees at a Bob Dylan concert at the Hollywood Sportatorium in 1974...
I was at a mega Eric Clapton concert at the South Florida Fairgrounds near West Palm Beach also in '74 (and also a Deep Purple concert at the Orange Bowl the same year...)
I was at a big Neil Young free concert (over 150,000 people) in Bicentennial Park Miami, in 1977.
Police concert 1981 - I think at South Fla. Fairgrounds
I was at the Live Aid concert at JFK Stadium (90,000 people) in Philadelphia, 1985.
I've been to many Grateful Dead concerts including ones at Saratoga Springs 1983 and Oxford, Maine, 1988...
I was at the Dylan/Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tour wherever it stopped in Florida in 1986.
I was also at Dylan's 1987 tour with the Grateful Dead (probably at Tampa Stadium.
I was at I think all the U.S. portion of the Bruce Springsteen "Born in the USA" concert tour in 1984-5, including all concerts in Miami, New York, Philly, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Oakland and L.A.
I was at all the Dave Matthews Band concerts in Hartford (where several cars and a post office were set affire by juvenile delinquents...) Philly, West Palm Beach in the late 90s (ditto for Jimmy Buffet ...)
I was also at the infamous sold-out Genesis concert in Tampa Stadium (circa mid-80s) when it was canceled after two songs because Phil Collins couldn't perform with a sore throat.
I was also at a few big Rolling Stones, Who and Journey concerts in Florida, but I'm not sure exactly when ...
Anyone recall seeing me? ... Were any of you even born yet when many of these concerts happened ? (I guess there'd be more response if I included a few "Lilith Fairs" , "Lolapolooza's" , "Van Warped Tours" and "Further Fests" I remember doing in Florida and the Northeast, but a I just can't put the years and venues together without doing a lot of research...(I think I left out "Phish" - does anyone mind? ) |

Rteacher--I saw most of the Dead's spring tour '89 and the entire Summer '91 tour. Those were my my only extended runs, but there were something like 50 or so others inbetween, after, before, and under, all along the East Coast and South East. I'll bet we crossed paths at some point or other. It goes to show you don't ever know...
Didn't anybody see Branford Marsalis in Seoul about a month ago? |

I was there! I think it was the last Taste concert I went to; the crowds were getting too big. NRBQ is great.
Okay, how about:
Warren Zevon's first sober concert (he talked about it all night!) - East Lansing, MI 1977
All Chicago appearances of Zevon, John Prine, and Jethro Tull - 1983-1988, 1990-1995. Also, I went to Biddy Mulligans (three blocks from my apartment) whenever I could for Big Twist and the Mellow Fellows (they were the house band when there was no other booking in the late 1980s)
Sting - Seoul 1997
Alanis Morissette - Seoul 1997 |

U2 Pop Mart tour, Chicago (1997)
U2 Zoo TV tour, World Music ampitheatre, Tinley Park, IL (1992)
Ministry...Skinny Puppy (some industrial band- I don't remember who- they "killed" someone on stage and there was fake blood everywhere ), First Avenue, Mpls, MN (1992)
Eric Clapton, metrodome?, Mpls, MN (1992)
Pearl Jam, First Avenue (club), Minneapolis, MN (1991)
Morrissey, Univ of Minnesota, Mpls (1991) Um, it was ghey- everyone was running around with sunflowers and acting all depressed and ethereal. God, it was boring. The Smiths would've been WAY better....
Lollapalooza, Alpine Valley, East Troy, WI (1990)
*Alpine Valley is where Stevie Ray Vaughn died in a helicopter crash (RIP)
The Monkees, Green Bay, WI (1987?) (I had a huge crush on Davy Jones...)
Sha Na Na, Chicago, 1977 (?) I was 4. I guess my mom couldn't find a babysitter^^
Ooooh- Rteacher- The Police!!!!!!!!! I'm jealous!! |

("Ooooh" and "Rteacher" are two words that you usually don't see together ; "Rteacher" and "police" have been seen together, though - with me riding in the back of a squad car... )
I forgot to mention that I was at a couple big U2 concerts - one at Giants Stadium back when they first got big and more recently (around 2000) in Ft. Lauderdale. (I could never understand why many rock critics considered them great...)
Also Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young at old Tampa Stadium - way back mid-70s....
I would have expected that more expats would have attended "Woodstock '99". Somehow I got a T-Shirt from it, but I'm (almost) sure that I didn't go ... Definitely had some good acts lined up (and wasn't that the one that featured some car burnings as well?...) |
