Just because YOU only work 30 hours a week, doesn't mean that most Korean parents do. Most of them work six days a week. As for playing with the kids, go to a beach during summer vacation. You'll see plenty of it then.

Ohhhhh the hard difficult life of the Korean man...ohhh the suffering!

BTW who said I only worked 30 hours a week?

I'm a salary dude too..but I bust my ass to get home ASAP and get the kids outside everynight...it's not that hard but does take a tiny bit of discipline...IE if I want to go out I have to wait until the kids are in bed.

And yeah, they take their annual holiday and go to the beach once a year...then tell themselves what great parents they are.

The fact of the matter is, most of them prefer going out with their buddies instead of coming home early. The ones that do make it home mostly plant their buts in front of the TV before and after dinner.

I can't believe that urbanmyth made some stupid reference to only working 30 hours a week. That is only teaching time! I spend 40 hours per week in my institute. I regard that as a substantial working week. And the attentive Korean parent part really made me laugh. Why do you think their kids spend half the night in a hagwon? Maybe it's because daddy is busy at the room salon with his company chums downing soju and mummy has the warped belief that their child will be the next Supreme Court Judge! How many parents even bother to collect their children from the hagwon? All of my kids go back in a bus. Really eager parents aren't they?
