Reminds me of the joke:
A *insert nationality here* is traveling in *insert country you wish to disparage* and approaches a passerby and asks: "Excuse me, could you tell me where the post office is at?". The passerby answers: "In proper English we don't end a sentence with a preposition".
The traveller then says, "My mistake, please forgive my ignorance. In that case, could you tell me where the post office is at, arsehole?" |

Flottie: That's what we would call an oxymoron, you moron, using those words in any combination. And if you haven't tried Newfoundland cod tongue cheeks, then you are in no position to offer a comment on relationships amongst the nations. Now, I, on the other hand, drove an ERV for the ARC into the hinterland of Miami last November. At the corner of 10th Street and 8th Avenue (Overland), I witnessed a real America. Mind you, we needed the Hialeah Police Dept. to escort us in and out, and it was imperative that we be gone by dusk. God Bless America, but where are the cod tongue cheeks, I ask you?
Mindmetoo: Thanks for not smearing this thread with your simple words. As for the Alcoholic Treatment Program you linked me to, I wish to extend a 2nd thanks. After two bottles of very cheap Napa Valley Pinot Grigio last evening, I may have to give this link some sober thought. You, on the other hand, may want to look in the mirror and again kick yourself in the arse, and only for who you are. Cheers. |

Beaver: Use your imagination, and drop the Canadian Beaver avatar, svp. It's a little too hard on this former Canuck's eyes: Cod Tongue/Cheeks.
Now, you two malcontents will have to excuse me. I have a golf game awaiting with the boys, and I must get to the Y for a long swim, both to get these simple rebuts and the Pinot Grigio out of my system, at least for awhile. It has been fun. Let's do do this again. Toodle dooall. |

I don't give a crap what anyone thinks of America, she can defend herself. Not my job to defend her from slander just because I don't agree with what someone writes on a message board.
I love Canada. I have always loved Canada. Ever since my old man gave me that first Canadian beer and took me there on a father son trip.
Crap on what anyone else thinks, they're not me. |

| Canadian Beer is American Beer, you who entered the room without the light switch on. The biggest seller in Ontario and Eastern Canada is Budweiser. To my point: There is no Canadian identity. We're all American. Get on board, Canucks....and I can say this because I am a Canuck, born and raised and my passport tells me so. |

I've travelled quite a bit in Canada, and I've never had a problem. I didn't go around advertising I was an American, so there ya go. I also don't have problems because I don't discuss politics. The writer was a sociologist- I'm sure she liked to dig deep and clearly wasn't happy with what she found, but what did she expect? She gave an example about 9/11 that some woman complained she would have to change her travel plans because someone might mistake her for an American. I absolutely don't feel that that attitude was indicative of wide-spread Canadian sentiment at all. It was one selfish person who only cared about herself. I thought it was inflammatory that she wrote that as an example. As for the interview with the PR person, I don't know what her book was about, but if it was related to her experience in Canada or Canadian healthcare, perhaps she should've discussed Canada, its history, etc. more in her book.
I'm sure she had lots of great experiences in Canada that weren't mentioned, as well, because that would've nullified her article, eh?
As for South Park, "Blame Canada" was funny at first (just because it's South Park. Um, whenever I've seen South Park, I was usually with a bunch of high/inebriated friends who used to tape every episode, so everything's funny when you are f-ed up^~). However, didn't it win some kind-of award? That went over the line, and I don't blame Canadians for getting pissed-off. Some things are funny, but there's a line, you know?
*Edit* Ok, I just googled the lyrics for "Blame Canada". Um, yeah- it's a nasty little song. Along the lines of Korea's "Bucking USA". |
After nearly one hundred and ninety years of nasty anti-Americanism from north of the 48, the duo released a low-brow comedy about the lovely nation of Canada. How many decades of nasty anti-Americanism have to pass before the Yanks are allowed to throw some crap around and go slumming, too? |

...that is perhaps my favorite episode...I watched it just the other day...my cousin's name is SCOTT and I am sure he is the D!CK to which they were referring...
Like others...I too make jokes with my American friends - we all tease one another about our national stereotypes in good fun... almost seems as though people have no sense of humour these days.... |

| I will have you know that I am not considerably older. I just happen to have had a very successful career and am interested in making a further contribution. I believe that teaching would be second nature to me, having taught adults for many years in a business environment. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a merlot on the kitchen counter. |
