I decided to fly over to Korea to find a job and check the place out. Would it be best to go through recruiters here or approach the shools directly? Also, is there a directory of schools?

Are you there by yourself? You're a brave soul. Best of luck to you. Out of curiosity, where would you stay over there and look for jobs?

I thought it would be easier to line it up from overseas. You are definitely a brave soul. I hope you don't lose out on the airfare money that most of us get in our contracts!

Go to three or four recruiters and ask them to set up interviews for you at schools that meet your criteria. Schedule several interviews for the day after you land.

Then it's a 2 day - 1 week wait, then you're off on a free trip to Japan, and then you will likely start work the day you get back.

Negotiate airfare reimbursement.

I'm staying in a youth hostel.
It probably is easier hooking up a job overseas but I had bad luck with recruiters and schools pulling out at the last minute. I didn't want to wait around for another month so I hopped on a plane over. Besides I really want a 6 month contract only, so I would have thought it would be easier to fly over and look.
Any advice on finding a job would be of great help.

I haven't tried that before so I don't have any really good advice. But I will say keep up the enthusiasm and apply to lots of schools. There's a lot out there that love to interview in person so I think you've opened doors for yourself. Apply to schools both on your own initiative and contact several recruiters. I would just say to keep in mind that the majority of hagwans hire for positions that start a the beginning of the month. It will probably mean that you aren't able to find a position that starts until the beginning of July. This can have advantages, as it gives you loads of time to look for something, and to not be pressured into signing something right away, but it also could mean that you are stuck paying for accommodation without any income for quite a while.
