(thanks to Billbile. Uh, er...Word! Naw, doesn't work for white guys)

Anyway.

I've had people tell me from time to time that I should pull my pants up over my belly button instead of at the waist. Even ex-girlfriends told me this, so I figure I must be making a Korean fashion faux pas with me low riders (i.e., at the waist).

Now, I always thought that the proper place for pants was at the midpoint between the human equivalent of the thorax and abdomen (I still remember 6th Grade science--yay!) and yet Koreans seem to figure the pants should ride higher. Damned uncomfortable it is, even with the obligatory beer belly--hey, I'm working on it!

Is this done back home? Am I out of touch with the demands of modern fashion? Do people want their legs to look longer at the expense of their chests?

Enquiring minds want to know!

They all really like Steve Urkel.

Umm........I did once try to wear my pants like that, and yea, it's uncomfortable. The family jewels get a bit squished and all....

I wear mine up at the navel simply cause I have hip-hop style jeans and if I dont, I'll trip over myself.

Also, it holds the gut in. Wink

The last Clint Eastwood movie I saw

I think it was called 'True Crime'

Eastwood had his pants WAAAAAAAAAAAY past his belly button.

It's what you do when you get old. Old and owned.

Word.

I'll jump off a tall building wearing a tracksuit and red cape first before I'd wear pants up over my belly button. I can hear the kids now: teddy bear, teddy bear, teacher is a teddy bear!

Nothing - and I repeat - NOTHING - looks more hideous than pants up over a mans belly. If you want to look like a dwarf - go for it, but remember the Lord of the Rings craze has died down again, dwarves won't be hip again till part 3 comes out in winter.

Remember - Korea is the place where dogs ears are died every imaginable colour - especially if it is garish, women wear socks with classy sandals, ajummas wear a hideous array of patterned polyester. Do not take the advice of a Korean person, over your own judgement.

If it don't feel right, then it probably looks wrong.

I have a pair of jeans that I wore in Brisbane with no worries (the fashion at the moment is for women's jeans to ride low - just above The Region, but not sluttily so). Here in Korea, I feel sinful for exposing a little waist. Korean women are so covery-uppery - and I'm a supposed conservative Hindu girl! Weird that *I* should find them modest.

PS - On the other hand, some Korean girls don't seem too...um...modest.

As you know, it's just a fiendlishly cunning master-plan to fool the world that you are not over-weight.

And by golly it works!

Almost. You have to make sure no-one sees you sideways, where your waist is actually wider than at the front.
