Hi I have been looking for a TOEFL or TESOL course that I can do online - but it has to be 100 hours...
I know about these courses - but they don't appear to be 100 hours - only 60~80 hours -

Are you looking for something in Korea?
There is a literal multitude of programs in Thailand - most in the 100+ hours of classroom and 6+ hours of observed teaching practice.
Start here maybe:
"How to Choose a TEFL School" to help you seperate the wheat from the chaff:

Hope that helps. |

I completed a course through this company in April, It was reasonably priced $300 and is recognised by most bodies as being a reasonable course. It took me 10days to complete the course as i was in a hurry but you would find it much simpler to take your time. Also it will depend how much experience youve had, because although its pretty straightforward you do have to do lots of lesson plans etc so if your in the habbit of doing them you complete it much easier. |

Do you see teaching English as a long term career?
If so, I wouldn't do an online course. You would be better off in investing in a CELTA or Trinity Cert course in Thailand etc

If you want to be cheap, you can try the asian efl journal course. It is (kinda) free. If you want to do their 120 hour course you have to buy a book which costs 100,000 won, apart from that it is free. It is acceptable for Korean public school jobs to raise you up a level if you have no other qualifications.
The website is: http://www.asian-efl-journal.com/TESOL_Certificate.php
I didn't do it though, so I don't know anything else about it. |

I have been teaching English in korea already for the last 6 years - however these days schools are expecting higher and higher standards of certificates etc etc from teachers - and also there are high-pay bonuses (especially in the public schools for those with a certificate) -
thats really why I want a certificate - just for the extra-salary and to keep up with the ever-increasing standards schools expect from teachers...
I would love to go to Thailand for 4~6 weeks and complete a course - but really I just don't have the time - I do have time on weekends however to complete 5~8 hours of a course each weekend and maybe a few extra hours during the week...
I realise a course less than 100 hours is just a waste of time and money... because the school will not consider much of it - so I really want to do an online 100 hour course...
actually thanks for the link - the asian-efl-journal one looks good - its supported by Universities and gives 120 hours (including a practical in korea.... upon completion of the course... |

Thanks - I might try ITTT - I was looking over the required modules etc with the asia-efl-.... one and it seems very very hard - lots and lots of reading and essay writing etc etc (almost a second uni degree)...
(they also seem to be tied up with ESL-law somehow? - its in their modules - and some of the required reading books are written by efl-law)
ITTT seems easier - and its its 100 hours - that all I need....
thanks |

well... I just had the interview with the SMOE and I was discussing with the interviewer that I would take a 100~120 hour TESL/TEFL course starting August and probably finish around Nov/December -
She stated that that was a great IDEA as within a year - they will EXPECT ALL of their teachers to have one - but she gave one WARNING -
she said..
"Do NOT take an online course - because we will not be hiring people next year who have an ONLINE course certificate - I strongly recommend that you take a practicuum course at one of the universities or offices here in seoul..."
sO THERE GOES the whole idea of studying from home...
Anybody can tell me - where I go in Seoul to take a 100 hour course to get my certificate - which university? which office? etc? |

Why not just take the online course to get the pay raise, and then decide at a later time if you even want to continue working for SMOE. |

The British Council in Seoul offers a one month CELTA course.
Here's a link: http://www.britishcouncil.org/korea-teaching-centre-cambridge-celta.htm |

Would that even apply to you since you will not be a new hire? I would think 1 year of actual classroom experience in a Korean Public school would outweigh the 100 hour TEFL requirement.
I'm just using the certificate to get a pay raise. I was thinking about going from GEPIK to SMOE next year. If I do that, then I'm pretty sure they'll hire me regardless of a TEFL cert or not. Especially with 1 year under my belt and an excellent recommendation from my current school. |
