Hello,

I love the low cost airlines in Europe - I miss them. Travelling in Asia (certainly from country to country is so expensive). Going away for a weekend from here - to Singapore, to China, to Japan, seems criminally expensive after being in Europe and flying from London to Athens (a 4 hour flight) for 50 pounds return (what - about 90,000 won).

Anyway, I've flown Ryan Air from London to Dublin, and London to Brussels (ah, technically not Brussels but Charleroi - but fine actually). Easyjet from London to Athens and London to Prague (about 6 times). I also flew from London to Iceland pretty cheaply, but I can't remember the airline.

The luggage is pretty stingy - about 20kg, but if you're only going for a short time it's plenty. And because they don't allocate seat numbers, there is sometimes a scramble to get on the plane. And obviously you have to pay for any food or drink.

However, in terms of price you can't go wrong. You do need to plan in advance, and if you're flexible with your dates sign up with their website newsletters - they'll email you when they are having a sale - and you can get staggeringly cheap flights. If you leave it to the last minute, you end up paying what you would if you were flying a schedule airline.

I've taken easyjet, ryanair, and volare (which is now out of business). They all have websites with destinations, prices per dates selected, etc.

For me, I took:
Barcelona-Dublin (US$75?)
Dublin-Brussels (US$30?)
Paris-Milano (US$30?)
Milano-Barcelona (US$30?)
Barcelona-London (US$20)
London-Barcelona (US$20)
Valencia-Rome (US$35)
Rome-Valencia (US35)

Most of the flights were in and out of lesser-known airports near the main cities. Their costs go way down that way and passed on to the consumer. No assigned seating either. Wherever you want when you get on the plane. No food or amenities.

I quite liked it. Just very essential without the bells and whistles.

Be careful with baggage.. it takes very little to go over the amount.. and then you end up paying quite a bit to get it on the flight. (Can't recall the minimums - probably on the websites).

thanks folks. We pulled the plug on it in the end.

My cousin (in amsterdam) has flown ryan air well over 100 times to deal with his agents and mastering studio and to get to italy for this and that.
He swears by them, and he introduced me to them.
