Hi-
someone has taken the time to recover most of Shawn Matthews' China blog- and they've put it here
http://members.aol.com/shawnschinalife/
Sorry if you've seen this before or have no idea what I'm talking about.

I think that that's great. Keep it on a free host. I didn't read it a great deal when he had it going, but enough people have said that they followed it and some were compelled to pick up and come to Korea, as a result. And that unknown amount of people that made that decision after being helped by reading his words, they may have come over and later met their future wife/husband and may later have a family and that's something to be proud of and worth remembering.
I remember when I was recruiting for a year or so. As much as I look back at that time as it being a really shit job, I learned later that one of my recruited teachers met a Korean girl and got married and they are happy as a pig in shit. Just hearing that one story made my recruiting memories a little more purposeful. But, love it or hate it, the words that Shawn typed in on his blog reached a lot more people than I ever recruited and likely connected, indirectly, a lot of relationships and friendships than we might take for granted.
RIP Shawn |

Good for us, but I wonder if it's what Shawn would have wanted. |

I downloaded it to my PDA and read it on the subway this morning. Poor guy just seemed to toggle between happiness and a kind of nagging sadness. I also used web reaper to capture his Korea Life blog and now I'm moving that to my PDA for subway reading. Who ever gets a chance just to sit and read a blog online? The glory of a PDA and a 512 MB SD card. (His blog seems to constitute about 200+ megs. Mostly photos.) |
