Just looking for some recommendations for taking my dog back to Canada. I would like to hear different opinions on which airline has provided the best service, the least cost and the least amount of hassle. We are going home in August for four weeks and then returning to Korea. So far, I have found United Airlines to be the cheapest and Air Canada to be the most expensive. In fact, Air Canada is over twice the amount of United. My dog will have to go in the cargo hold as he is WAY too big to be in the cabin.

Any advice/suggestions would be helpful.

I had a hassle- free low cost experience with Korean air. It was a shorter flight to Thailand though.

So here's what I have found out thus far: Most of the airlines charge between $220-$250 each way to ship your dog as extra luggage in the cargo hold. The only airline that is cheaper is United, but United is one of the more expensive airlines for me to travel on. Go figure.....

Just thought I would let others know what I have found out through my hours of researching all the different airlines.

I would read some of the postings on untied.com before you think of booking on United. As an American I used United for 2 round trips between US and Korea in the last year. Both times I was late--a whole DAY late--arriving in Korea due to various United delays. (one flight had 5 separate delays: lavatory maintenance, flight crew change, replacement of engine starter, passenger medivac of a passenger who got stressed out from sitting on the non-moving plane for 3 hours, and wing de-icing. Total delay on take-off was 6 hours so of course I missed my connection) Also on my first trip to Korea, united lost my luggage and it took me over a week to finally get it located and delivered.

They refused to compensate me any money for my trouble, depsite the fact that I lost wages from arriving in Seoul late 2 times. Ooh but I did get a 100.00 voucher good for domestic US travel! Thanks but no thanks. I'd pay double before I ever flew United again

I've traveled United back and forth (USA and Korea) for 7 years now. I have never had a problem with them. I mean a problem out of the ordinary. I have flown with Korean and Northwest and suffice it to say that I was not at all impressed.

I have traveled United with my cat twice and the only time there was a problem with her was the first time. I didn't know that felines have an adverse reaction to sleeping meds at high altitudes. It was my fault that she bit me. Minus the meds all went well the next time around. Personnel even made sure I had lots of sapce for kitty's bag, etc. I have never paid more than $100 for her to travel in the cabin with me. The thing I hated was having to take her out of her bag though security checks. But I know there is reason for that.

If you plan in advance, United usually shows up as the cheapest ticket, too.

Just my 2 cents worth~~ Very Happy
